It does not do somehing bad. But one problem is OPL2 is speed sensitive. 486+ are better with OPL3 based cards.

The main hurdle is Windows 10 loading time on mechanical harddrives. 🫤 Else even first gen Core2Duo is just fine for 10 and even hacked 11.

My 2 cent are. My last real W98 machine was P3 500MHz 256MB Geforce 2 MX. It was snappy. Ran everything. Now I would use a 800MHz. And Geforce 5. They are cheaper than Geforce 4. Athlon and P4 are more XP territory.

Try MSCDEX. That shsucdx is nice but is really not 100% compatible and sometimes gives trouble. The same thing is with Microsoft mouse 8.20 versus cutemouse.

I agree on one point 16:10 is like the golden aspect ratio. I have some newish LCD monitors in that ratio and i love them in DOS mode. 720x400 text mode is so pleasant to read there, and 320x200 games somehow also look natural. Maybe it is only me. Back when I used a 486 or Pentium every day, I made a small RAM drive to hold my browser cache. I had autoexec.bat make the cache folder during boot up. It was much faster than a hard drive, and I didn't care if it got erased at power down. Noice ... a fast incognito mode for fast porn viewing …

ME boot floppy just expands compressed files from floppy to ramdrive. It is for space constraints. Large memory floppy only machines may use it. Maybe compiling programs. But in reality in a ordinary work and ordinary 386/486 with ordinary hard drive, you do not really need it.

Never noticed that something needed is missing on Quake2. And early low level 3D accelerated mipmapping is atrocious. Even DooM had better darking grades to the distance.
