for that price, i'm SERIOUSLY considering getting one.

I bought desolder K6-2+ several years back. Worked just fine. I only paid a few bucks so it was worth the risk.

I'm all settled now, I'm getting a Gigabyte GA-5AX as well and I'm going to build a PC as soon as they arrive.

I bought from the same seller last year for that same model and it works. 550 no problem at 1.8v easy and can almost ran it passive 😀

What revision is your board? I think only the very last one (4.0 ?) supports the K6-2+/K6-3+. I used to have a 2.1 and it only went as high as a K6-2 400 and it wouldn't even boot at 100MHz... 🙄

Speaking of K6 processors... I got my GA-5AX and decided to set a system set up with a K6-2 400 that I have and wait for the K6-3+ 400 (which I will overclock at 550-600) and then just swap it.
So, I installed a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI in there, an AWE 64 Gold, 128MB RAM and Win98SE and I've getting some really bad framerates, regardless of resolution and graphical settings. I know the K6-2 is anything but fast, but 38fps on demo1.dm2 with the 3Dnow! patch? Or how about 15 fps on Quake 3 Demo 4?
I even overclocked it to a K6-2 475 and still there was not much of a difference. Initially I thought it was an OpenGL/Glide thing, so I tooyed around with different drivers and Mini GLs, but to no avail, I even swapped the Voodoo 3 with a Matrox Milennium II and a couple of Voodoo 2 cards. Practically the same performance.
Finally, I hooked my MMX 233 running at 250 (2.5x100) and it is actually faster! Quake 3 gives me 20fps at the same settings. Quake 2 gives me about 38.

I've had a Voodoo 1 that wasn't working properly in the past. Some games ran just fine, but others just ran way too slow, nowhere near actual Voodoo 1 levels. Can this happen with CPUs as well? Could this be a "broken" CPU? To tell you the truth, it never really performed well in all the years I've had it, but I never gave it much thought.
This has got to be way too slow, even for the K6-2!

Seems something is wrong. My Quake 2 benchmark with my Evergreen Spectra 400mhz K6-II, Voodoo2 SLI running on 66mhz bus got 40.2FPS with the regular 3DFX miniGL driver at 1024x768 in Quake2 demo1 and 56.9FPS with the 3DNow driver activated (video of the benchmark here). In Quake 3 I got around 19 FPS. Are you sure the 3DNow driver is actually selected in the settings?

Cache or memory settings wrong maybe?

38 at 100MHz bus at 1024x768.
I can't really try the 3DNow 3Dfx Driver, because it always crashes with an error, I think it's because of the Voodoo 3, readme states it is optimized for Voodoo 2, I'm guessing it just won't work on anything other than Voodoo 2.
And here's the weird part. I raised the voltage from the norm 2.2V to 2.3V and now I get 28fps on Quake 3, High Quality at 1024x768(16bit obviously).
I'm guessing degrade effects?
Vetz, can you run the MDK 2 benchmark (I used the demo)? Try 1024x768, Full Texture Quality, Trilinear Filtering and see what it gives you. I got 21fps on that one.

I got 18.2 average FPS in that test. Seems to be expected that you get 3 FPS more with a 100mhz bus.

In Quake 2 the difference can boil down to that the game just runs better on Voodoo2 SLI compared to Voodoo 3 3000.

Well I tried Q2 3.20 on my K6-2+ at 6x100 MHz:

V2 SLI: 48.7 fps
Quadro2: 59.1 fps

Q2 3.20 3DNow!:
V2 SLI ref: 48.9 fps
Quadro2 ref: 59.4 fps

Q2 3.20 3DNow!:
V2 SLI 3DNow!: crash
Quadro2 3DNow!: 60.1 fps
