Hello all.

I've had a search through some of the posts, but can't find anyone with a similar problem. I'm running Dosbox on Mac OSX, and most of the time, without problem. However occasionally I come across a game package that requires Win32. I've had one success with Elder Scrolls: Arena, where I used Wine to unpack the files from Bethesda. I'm afraid I think I'm too inexperienced to know what I'm doing though, as I've had no luck with other games.

Is there a simpler way of doing this out there?

Thank you for your time.

DOSBox only runs DOS games.

If you are using a Windows program or a self extracting archive that is using Windows (and there's no program to unpack for your OS) then you'll need to use Windows or Wine to execute it.

Easiest solution for a OSX user would be to use Parallels or Vmware with a Windows install to those games.

There are numerous programs capable of unpacking specialized .exe installers without having to run them. You may enjoy The Unarchiver:

Of course, if it's not a DOS program but some kind of Windows thing that installs new system files or needs to write to the registry, that might not be enough, but in such a case DOSBox probably won't help you either.

I use WineSkin on my Mac (http://wineskin.doh123.com/). It is based on Wine, but it is a bit easier to use for beginners and new versions of Wine (engines) can be easily downloaded without compiling.
