Finally, playing it with the CD gives me the CD audio for voices! And it works properly!

Only problem I have now, is with the ripped cue/bin pairs, no matter what ripper I use, I still have the issue where it will skip the first 3 seconds of the audio segment it's supposed to play, and play 3 seconds into the next one.. I'm at a loss.. here is my .conf autoexec.

mount c d:\oldgames\
C:
imgmount d NEW_WO~2.cue NEW_WO~4.cue -t iso
cd world

The CD audio works fine for me, and I use the same method of mounting the images as you do. I believe they are recorded as long audio tracks with multiple conversations, and the game then seeks to a particular point depending on what's being said. So by the sounds of it your cue sheet is being created with a 3 second offset for some reason.

I have a different problem though which you might be able to check for me. I mount the images the same way you do, using the multiple image mount command and using ctrl+F4 to switch between them. However, if the wrong CD is inserted (just mount CD 2 and talk to someone in the first town) a prompt is shown to switch CDs, but it just gets stuck there for a while then quits out. I'm not sure if this is because the internal image reader doesn't send a prompt to the game telling it a new CD has been inserted, or if it's something else to do with the game itself.

I'll have a look at my .cue files when I get home from work and post the proper offsets (if they're there!) to see if that helps you.

Yeah, maybe I can just try your cue file.. As for the issue you are having, yeah, I have that problem too.. but it seems you'd have to do some weird swapping at the wrong time for that to happen.. I found it hard to test doing that with the physical CD version (which just proceeds to play the wrong audio clip instead of asking for CD 1).

It might just be something with DOSBox and the way it handles image changing.

EDIT: After retesting, if you load up the game with your characters on Darkside (disk 2) with the default disk 1 in, and force the game to load with disk 1 image, the crash will not occur, and you just get the wrong audio clip (just like with the CD).

Here are the first 4 tracks of my Disk 1 .cue file, as reference.

I did try changing the PREGAP to 00:00:00 and it had no effect whatsoever. I am using the original 1994 release CDs.

Disk 1 image seems to be PERFECT now!

Unfortunately the one for Disk 2 seems to make the problem for Darkside worse! It's pretty much now just playing the track after the one its supposed to play.. arrgh, we must have different versions of the game.. Maybe it'll be possible for me to fix it by hand...

What ripper did you use for yours? The ones I have tried seem to produce the same cue files with Index 00 and Index 01s instead of just the 01.

EDIT: I noticed that the values you have for Disk 1 are pretty much basically the exact middle of the times of Index 00 and 01 for Disk 1.. while your Disk 2 times are actually 2 seconds higher than Index 1.. so I'm going to try to modify by hand to the middle value and see if that fixes it.

SUCCESS!! Thanks so much! Even though the 2nd one was off, your CUE files provided me with all the information to get it all working.. woot!!

Get yourself a case of your favorite beer/soda/liquor/fine chocolate.. You deserve it! 😀

Cheers! TYVM!! 😁 😁 😁 😁

Now I just have to figure out a way to reduce the MIDI volume so that I can actually hear the voices over the rather loud "background" music. :p

perhaps you could post the correct cue files. I've seen others having problem with this specific game.

The first CUE file he posted is 100% on the money..

I am gathering that his 2nd CUE file might be for the Ultimate RPG Archive or Ultimate Might and Magic Archive version, which means people using those versions might have to use it.. The one that I got working (above) for me is for the original 1994 CD release of the game.

Glad you got it working! 😀

Just tried re-ripping CD 2 using ImgBurn, and it gives the same values as yours, minus 2 seconds. But it creates a POSTGAP of 00:02:00 after the data track 😕

Either way, I guess one of the two cue's will work depending on which version of the game you have.
