And you are sure you are using DOSBox?

Yes sir!!!
I`m using DOSBOX 0.72 and the message i get while trying to load the game is:

Starting Battlespire...
Warning: 31M RAM+Swap detected.

Battlespire has detected less that the desired amount of memory available to the game. This is most likely due to the DPMI memory setting of your dosbox. Please read the `patch.txt` file and pay close attention to the `Random Crashes` section.

It is also likely that you may be low on disc space on your hard drive before running Battlespire.

If you decide to continue playing the game, there is a *VERY* good chance that it *WILL* crash.

{Hit `q` to stop loading the game or any other key to continue...}

Of course if i hit to continue it crashes.......
The fact is that the solution it gives to the patch.txt its about windows 95 dosbox. This is not my case. I`m in XP version and i don`t know how to change this DPMI menory in my dosbox... 😖
Any ideas at all??????

I get the "Warning: 31M RAM+Swap detected" error too, but there's no way to avoid it in DOSBox as far as I know, no matter what value I give memsize in dosbox.conf, although it should be 63 for this game anyway.

This is what Battlespire say on a real DOS computer with 64MB:

Starting Battlespire...

Good: 55+ RAM and swap detected

In any case, Battlespire does run fine despite that error. It just create a 40MB swapfile where Battlespire is installed and continue.

If it crashes you probably installed it or mounted it wrong. Or forgot to install the Battlespire 1.5 patch.

Hi again...
The problem insist....
I changed the memory to 64 as you told me and 63 too...
The same message as it tries to load....

If i press anykey to continue it says:

Code: 0 not found in C:\>

Then it crashes....

Have you really tried it with DOSBOX?

I mounted and installed it through the iso of the game with Alcohol.
I also updated it to 1.5 version....

memory things sounds logical btw. We don't emulate all extended interfaces needed for larger then 32 mb for one type of memory...

(so 64 mb of one type isn't always possible in DOSBox).

I'm pretty sure that Code 0 means it's not installed correctly.

At least, that's what Code 0 means in Daggerfall, the game Bethsoft developed before Battlespire.

So open SPIRE.CFG and make sure the paths in there for the mounted game folder and the mounted CD-ROM letter are correct.

Yes, I have. And it's been working fine for me in 0.65, 0.70 and 0.72. It's a bit slow in 0.65, though.

And another think... i`m sure that i have installed the game correctly since i installed it in the root directory c:\ as it tells me without changing anything. Of course with 1.5 patch.
I also tried by mounting the iso (-t cdrom com) and also by transfering the wave and video files from the CD and of course changing the spire.cfg file to fit my case...but nothing....
I changed the memory amounts, nothing...
I don`t know what to say...
Anyways.... Thnx again for trying with me!...

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Reading the aptly named README file will be a good idea too.

1st question in DOSBox guide:
Does it really matter if i don`t create the directory for the game `C:\Documents and Settings\your-user-name\My Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame`
and only create a directory `C:\Batspire` as the game gives me the choise to do while i`m installing it?
Because if i do a mistake i have to rewrite all the `C:\Documents and Settings\your-user-name\My Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame` line in the DOSBox and that is really boring. So if i don`t need to do that i will just create the directory that the installer gives me. Is that ok?

2nd question about dosbox:
I have put in the `Autoexec` the lines and right now they look like that:
[autoexec]
Mount c "C:\Documents and Settings\u\My Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame"
Mount D "F:\" -T cdrom

(Cool thing!! 😉 )

But when i try to install the game through DOSBOX, it tells me:
`You do not have enough space on any of your hard drives to install Battlespire.
Free up some room by removing unused and unwanted software and then try installing the game again.
Whoops.`

Of course this is not the case. I have plenty of space in my HD C:\!!
And it doesn`t complain for space when i install the game through the CD`s windows installer!!
What should i do install it through windows or DOSBox and how??
THNX!!

Look in the README for freesize

DOSBox only shows 110m of free space for old games.

GUYS!!!!!
I cannot believe it!!!
I was so furstrated i couldn`t believe my eyest!!!
I`m actually playing the game!!!
I give you all the credits guys!!!!
Thnx a lot for spending your time with me and helping me!!!!

My mistake of course was that i didn`t actually install the game through DOSBox and i did it all the times through the windows installer that the game has that is why it was giving me the message `Code: 0 not found in C:\> ` it was wrong installation, Freddo was right from the begining!!
Then of course i followed your leads making -freesize and of course changed the memory from 16 to 64..... AND IT WORKED JUST SWEET!!!!!!!!

Thank u so much u made somebody really happy!!!!!!!!!!
