Hello
Probably, but without following the posting guidelines that are on the top of every forum we can't help any more than that Snover (yes, I'm a pedantic ass) _________________ Colin Snover Zetafleet Web Development Believe it or not, we have posting guidelines always. |

AotD has plenty of "issues", http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&l...26tab%3Dwg http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&l...0%26sa%3DN ...as you are already discovering: http://64.246.21.118/phpBB/viewtopic.ph...a207af6c7c Some interesting posts there. Lot's of inaccurate info there. Pardon me for a moment while I shout: VDMSOUND IS FOR [B]DOS PROGRAMS RUNNING ON AN NT O.S. ONLY!! IT IS NOT FOR 'WINDOWS" EXECUTABLES IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, FORM OR FASHION. So everyone please read the fine manual that comes with VDMSound. Put simply, your best bet is to apply compatibility mode to each of the Windows executables within the game's directories (applying the "Windows 95", "256-color" mode and disable "visual themes"). Try running the game's main executable, which should be AODCD.EXE. If it works, then good for you. If it crashes with an error like this: Quote: "Assert::err: line 522 in "..\sim\win_snd.cpp": Unable to initialize
...then you almost certainly will have to disable audio to get it to work.
Sound/FX Make a shortcut to the game. In that shortcut's "Target" box add a " -s" after the game executable, like this: D:\FUN\AOTD\AODCMD\AODCD.EXE -s That deactivates all audio, which appears to be AotD's biggest problem. The other (mangled color palette for anything "outside the sub") is fixed by using compatibility mode's 256-color option.[B] Quote: (yes, I'm a ... *cough*

I got ACES OF THE DEEP running with sound under XP :: 2003-10-31 @ 04:45 pm

Hi !
I just got Aces of the Deep to run with sound under XP. All I did was the following: -I set AODCD.EXE in the maindir and SUBSIM.EXE in the SIM subdir to Win95 compatibility mode. -Manually edited the SOSLIB.INI file in the SOUND subdir so that the resources of all the listed soundcard drivers matched the settings of my onboard soundcard: DefaultSettings= 0x220, 0x07, 0x01, 0x01 -Manually edited the content of the file RESOURCE.CFG in main dir from [CDdrive] to [CDdrive] I:= D:= It now runs perfectly with sound under WinXP Pro, sound source is the onboard SoundMAX soundcard from my Asus A7VX8X mobo. I don't have any SP's installed, and i am running DirectX 9. I hope it works for you too. Greets Patrick Schneider |

UPDATE
Grrrr, just noticed that with the method described I only get to work the subsim.exe with sound and music, the main exe still gives the error message. So, I can play but not elect a scenario. Maybe I can start a game with the -s toggle to deactivate sound, save the game, quit, start subsim.exe and load the game from there. If that fails I'll try moving the main exe to the SIM subdir...
