You must already own DOOM2 and DOOM3 BFG Edition for this to work.
Copy NERVE.WAD from ur \Doom 3 BFG Edition\base\wads folder to ur DOOM2 folder

Download the file here, extract to ur DOOM2 folder
http://sourceforge.net/projects/prboom-plus/f … m2-plus/1.92.6/

Launch with the following command:

DOOM2P -file Nerve.wad

DOOM2P makes the following changes, which prevents the aforementioned
R_FindPlane: no more visplanes error

-------------------------------------------------------
limit : old * k = new
-------------------------------------------------------
visplanes[MAXVISPLANES] : 128 * 8 = 1024
drawsegs[MAXDRAWSEGS] : 256 * 8 = 2048
SAVEGAMESIZE : 180224 * 16 = 2883584
activeplats[MAXPLATS] : 30 * 256 = 7680
vissprites[MAXVISSPRITE] : 128 * 8 = 1024
linespeciallist[MAXLINEANIMS] : 64 * 256 = 16384
openings[MAXOPENINGS] : 16384 * 4 = 65536
-------------------------------------------------------

There's a new episode for DOOM II on XBLA called No Rest for the Living. It came with my copy of DOOM 3 - BFG Edition. I've almost finished all 9 levels and can't get over how well it plays with the XBOX controller.

I'm kind of pissed cause I just realized there's a PC version and I want to rip the new episode onto my Retro-Ghetto PC! Guess I'll wait until it gets marked down. I'm not paying full retail twice!!

Have you guys played this yet? What do you think?

Go buy it on Steam when there's a bethesda sale by christmas.

I couldn't wait. Oh well, what's another 30 bucks! The file structure is quite a bit different than the old DOS versions of DOOM, but there's still WAD files.

I was able to load the NERVE.WAD onto DOOM2.WAD using an old copy of the Doomsday engine I have installed. Since official textures are being used, everything works great! It just plays the DOOM2 soundtrack chronologically however. The DOOM2 expansion has its own waveset or something.. I haven't quite figured it out. I really need to fix the flaming skull sprite I'm using.

OK, running DOOM in glide wrappers with mods is all fine and dandy.. but that sh!t can't fly on my Retro-Ghetto box!

I'm running the new DOOM II episode, No Rest for the Living in MS-DOS Mode, using the following command:

DOOM2 -file Nerve.wad

Even after patching to DOOM II v1.9, I'm getting the following error randomly:
R_FindPlane: no more visplanes

Anyone know what this is and how to go about fixing it?

EDIT: I may be onto something here:
http://doomwiki.org/wiki/Boom

OK, Problem with BOOM is it changes the HUD, audio and who knows what else. I'd like to stay as authentic as possible. If there was just some way to change the necessary bits to increase/remove visplane limit, that would be ideal.

SOLUTION: DOOM2P.EXE

You could try one of the more vanilla ports. PRBoom might help.

Sadly there's no proper DOS Doom port that doesn't suck (they all use Allegro)

ALSO YOU SHOULD REMOVE THE ATTACHMENT IN YOUR POST IMMEDIATELY, IT IS COMMERCIAL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL

Sorry, the WAD file wasn't supposed to be in there. 🙁

You could have just linked to the official PrBoom-plus downloads...

Not using PrBoom, but rather a precursor to it.. Doom2P. It's open source, but the WAD file wasn't (which I accidentally included in my zip).

I removed the WAD from the zip and re-uploaded. For those who bought the game, simply copy the NERVE.WAD from your .\Doom 3 BFG Edition\base\wads folder.

PS I like ur SkiFree avatar!! 😀

The PrBoom-plus download area I linked to has folders of patched DOS executables for DOOM-engine games that increase limits to support more complex maps. The DOOM2P.EXE you are using is the one from the doom2-plus 1.92.6 archive there.

You are correct. I updated this thread, thanks.

I haven't really seen the nerve expansion, as I'm redoing Doom 1 and 2 (again 😜) to get the Achievements, but what I can tell is that it includes some sort of Gravis emulation...it includes the Gravis patches (look in "Steam\steamapps\common\DOOM 3 BFG Edition\base\classicmusic") and the music sounds (sadly, I prefer my soundfonts and GM) err...Gravis-like.

Edit: playing it with the real thing (BFG edition) it seems to play the Doom 2 soundtrack too...with the level 1 music in...level 1.

Yeah, I noticed this too. Some of the music sounded slightly modified to me, but I could be mistaken.

Been playing a lot of DOOM lately. There's Lost Levels in DOOM3 also!

Oh, and kill a Cyberdemon with a fist weapon achievement WTF!

Only 9 levels? I wonder how this stacks up against previous official DOOM II add-ons.... or some of the better WADs from doomworld over the years.

It received a Cacoward from doomworld in 2010: http://www.doomworld.com/17years/best1.php
