Trying to use VDM Sound 2.0.4 on GNBNA and the other Great Naval Battle games I get that message after exiting the configuration wizard. The screen then says initialization will continue and I get a DOS screen that says inactive launchpad with the game executale file name. I have VDM Sound Update 2 installed showing that my launchpad version is
1.0.1.1 . Every thing else with the program works . I also read in an
earlier guide on using VDM Sound on SSI Silent Hunter that you have to
apply a registry fix for VDM Sound before using it on that game or any
Dos application. My system is as follows:

Win XP(SP3)
Celeron 2.4 Ghz
40Gb HD
1mg Ram
Nvidia 7200 GS

Thanks for any help on this.

Tip of the Day was removed in v2.1.0 way back in 2003:

Thanks, I'll try to use the registry fix mentioned in the article. If it doesn't help , I'll install 2.10 and delete 2.0.4 or maybe use DOS BOX.

You should use DOSBox, anyway. NTVDM is crap.

Installed VDM 2.1.0 and tried to run GNBNA again and still got DOS screen saying inactive launchpad gnbna.exe .
Happens on running default or custom configuration. I know how you hate VDM sound, but I would like to know what may have caused this.

Can you run the game without VDMSound?

What happens if you open a command prompt.
Run VDMSound's "DOSDRV.EXE" to launch the VDMSound TSR
Configure the games sound.
Run the game.

Nobody here hates VDMSound. It's just obsolete. It's like using phones with a party line. There's no reason to when there is a better solution. The last developed version of VDMSound was way back in 2003. It's 2009 and all VDMSound does is provide Sound and Joystick over NTVDM.

NTVDM hasn't really been developed further since NT 4.0 released back in 1996. (You could argue that it's the same as in NT 3.51).

So yeah, your using two emulation solutions (VDMSound and NTVDM) that were crappy to begin with and are obsolete. (VDMSound isn't bad it just has to rely on NTVDM so it can only do so much)
