Yes, GEOS guys out there!

Not only Windows XP/Vista is able to give us the happiness to start
older DOS-like GUIs over DosBox within a 32bit environment...now there
is also a port for Linux-based OS's since 2007.

You can now also download (for example) an openSuse 11.0 DOSBox.rpm, add SDL 1.2.0, download GEOS25d from www.geos-infobase.de and bring alltogether in your HOME directory at Linux..

PC/GEOS under Linux: Now possible without DOSEMU, for all
DOSBox geeks!

I have a nice link for you about that German story:

http://www.geos-infobase.de/BB1023/thread.php … d=1756#post1756

and also - for sure - a fine link to the picture:

The way to get DOSBox.rpm (and GEOS for example) for openSUSE 11.0 to work fine:

- empty one Partition (f.e. under XP/Vista/Windows 2003)
- install openSUSE 11.0 from the free DVD

- solve your MBR problems (XP works, but could not start further more, because Linux overwrites the MBR, GRUB could not start Windows and so you must search for mbr.zip with getsect.exe and setsect.exe to get a linux.dat and nolinux.dat which are the two important 512 bytes long MBR copies for booting and starting into XP or Linux)

- download GEOS 2.5 and unzip it (f.e. onto an USB-Stick)
- copy GEOS 2.5 into Linux (ark-unzipping doesn't worked for me!)
- load and install DOSBox.rpm for openSUSE 11.0
- download needed SDL 1.2.0 and install it
- test DOSBox to check it
- test: Mount c ~ (Home directory is now C:\ )
- c:
- DIR (Does you see GEOS 2.5 directory ?)
- make unvisible files visible now under Linux
- edit the now visible file .dosboxrc (in ~/home/"yourname")
- at it's end ad:

mount c ~
c:
cd geos25
loader

Does GEOS starting? If not (KR-29):

- put in: fs = os2.geo under [system] in the geos.ini
- change the resolution if needed, because of actual Linux' resolution

So now you will have a fine DOSBox (and GEOS) under openSuse 11.0 and perhaps under other Linux distributions, because of the right DOSBox.rpm, a easier way that compiling, don't you all think so?

ENJOY IT! Manfred (EPA)
