Pre-amble:
I am aware that many people think this game is rubbish, but I happen to enjoy it.

Amble:

Exaclty this. How does one make Creature Shock work with DosBox or otherwise?

I have tried it on Windows 98 and Vista, and under DosBox. On DosBox and 98 I get to the first level but then it crashes.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Turaga Nuju

I tried pure DOS, but it doesnt like the DOS4GW file.

I then tried a new version of DOS4GW (From this forum) but that did not work either.

What is this 'loadfix' ?

Run "loadfix" in DOSBox, and it'll use up about 64 K of RAM for games that don't expect you to have so much free memory. Fixes some games, but your mileage may vary in this case.

Creature Shock rules. 😁 I remember what it was to play it in 1994 and 1995. It is still great today. 😀
So here is what you need to make it run. It does not need loadfix. Set the memory to 16Mb. Install the game. Make sure you set the core to dynamic, and also set the cycles to not more than 40000. Otherwise Creature Shock outputs a dos4gw error. Crshock just doesn't run on faster machines.

Used to crash in the same way on my dos dedicated pc (350 Mhz PII), unless I ran moslow.

So set the cycles to 40000, and not more; core to dynamic, use dosbox 0.72. Plays fine with these settings. Enjoy 😀

I've not tested the game yet (have it around somewhere), but using DOS/32A instead of the original DOS4GW could make it run better. I'm using DOS/32A with all DOS4GW games, with very good results. Most games run more fluid and a bit faster with DOS/32A. Unfortunately, GLIDE accelerated games (Tomb Raider 3DFX, for example) will crash with DOS/32A, which is a known bug AFAIK.

Did you install the game from DOSBox or from Vista?

Regardless, I decided to complete the first level, die and then see if it loaded. Slight hitch in that plan. I sat through all five levels in a row and finished the game 😁
