Note: I thought I should post it here (because the HDD is hardware) but if it was wrong -> move it

I read this: Sample usage of a harddisc image in DOSBOX, and came to the last step, which is to copy the win3.11 installer files to the image with DiskExplorer
( Windows 3.1x DOSBox Guide )

The problem is:
If I want to copy the installer files to the image, it always stops at the 510th of 616 files with the Message "Directory Full". Whats the matter?
my image is big enough!

(i also tried to copy it in a subdirectory, it also dont works...)

Just a guess, but I remember DOS only supported 512 files in the root directory of a hard drive, even less on a floppy. I can't remember if there was a file limit in subdirectories or not but I thought it was just the root directory. I ran into the exact same thing years ago copying files to a 44 meg Syquest; a directory full message even though I had barely used half the capacity. I don't remember now how I got around it. I either put them in a subdirectory or split them up into individual folders.

well, if i put it only into a subdirectory it don works, but spliting up into 2 parts do... i dont understand it 🙄

but how can i install when the files are in different directorys??

edit:// oh thats actually not the prob.

because if I start setup.exe there is a message that setup doeson't finds the xms or there is no xms driver installed... whats the matter?
where can i get a xms driver?
or what is wrong?

that is easy to implement.
Think it's a good idea.
as booters don't expect it.

wd: hm.. i wonder.. maybe it would be good to automatically set xms, ems, umb=false when you use a boot command?

that was the prob.!

Now installing works, but there is the next problem:
when 3.11 is installed, setup must boot. if it boots, there appears a message:
(i translated it in english, i dont know how its written in the real english version)

"Error while initalizing the screen-adapter. You have to run setup again."

Whats the matter?
in the article "How to run Win3.11 on Dosbox Guide" theres somethin about a "Tseng-Driver", but
Setup dont ask me for a driver?!
