IMHO the definitive screenmate of the mid-90s - SCMPOO

also Mikan Seijin (from the same developer?)

Uhh...does he also work on Win11/64 and Win7?

As I said, I love Worms Deskmate. I have a few other desktop toys in a small .7z file on my computer, including ones that display ants and snow and one with a little binary toy that crawls on the bottom of the screen and interacts with windows. Where online can I get other little toys? Both for modern systems and Win98SE?

I assume you've got Neko the cat - your mouse pointer turns into a little mouse and as you move it, a cat chases after it. If you stop, the cat will sit there and scratch itself, or have a snooze.
It's only for windows 3.1 etc that has Program Manager - it will run on later windows but will be entirely hidden by the desktop.
No, I don't. Will he work on Win98SE?

I mentioned that a few pages back. I mentioned that there's a "Neko98" which I thought may be for Windows 98, but now I realise it could in fact be for PC-98, I don't know 😀
I just downloaded and tried SCMPOO. I didn't see him. I find my little worm entertaining, though, but he gets on a lot of people's nerves.

I know how he feels.
I just looked back in this thread and downloaded K-Meleon then opened the file. I couldn't find a text file with information about it but found a HTML file. It didn't tell me what the program was, but it pointed me to a web site. I admit I didn't click the link. What is this program? What does it do?

TIL, Sheep.exe's actual name is SCMPOO ...
I've been downloading a lot of Win98 themes from archive.org. I found some Win98 startup screens there but didn't download them. Maybe it's because I was not expecting them there. I really should download them. 😀 I've also been downloading startup screens and a utility to handle them from http://logos.xrx.ca/. I even created some of my own, but they're not truly my creations: they're actually screenshots of some of my C64 games. If you want, I can post a link to them here. I also know of a site with a lot of wallpaper called https://wallpaperscraft.com/. I'm looking for other sites with startup screens, screensavers and other fun stuff. I'm fine with wallpapers for now. 😀
BTW, I also have C64, NES and Amiga games wallpaper and NES Win98 startup screens online, but the Amiga support is currently limited.

I just found Catz on one of my flash drives. He should work and play on my Win98SE minitower, but I also want him to play on my Win11 laptop and Win7 laptops. I have version 1.00. Are there any newer versions for modern computers?

Good news! I just got Windows 98SE to work with UMBs from Windows! 😀 I just had to move DriveSpace out of Conventional memory. 😀 Now, how do I move DriveSpace out of Upper memory to High memory? It's taking up 90k of Upper memory, so I believe I can greatly empty out some such by moving it to High memory. BTW, I'm using the /move switch on the DRVSPACE.SYS command line.

Never mind: it works now. BTW, MEM displays 63,968 bytes total Upper memory, 42,784 bytes free Upper memory and 22,016 bytes largest free Upper memory block. Right now, other than the basics, only DOSKEY and DriveSpace are loaded. I'm going to look at another thread for more things to add. 😀

Bad news: it stopped working again. 🙁 I don't quite remember what I did to get it to work so can't repeat it.

Harry Potter wrote on 2023-04-06, 20:48:Well, on two Win98SE systems, 7Zip seems to have a problem with extracting to a different drive: the files appear in the folder containing the original archive file. Also, it occasionally locks up when I compress files using the LZMA2 compression technique--or maybe that's just the command-line version. It might be my particular version. I have 9.20. What's yours?
9.20, and i dont have this issue. I never tested compression algorithms, i always leave things on default. Maybe the issue is not with the 7zip, but with a driver or hardware instead.
One issue i noticed with 7zip is with compatibility of amd k5: it seems it generates crc errors. Either a compatibility issue, or my k5 cpus are dying.
