Be specific about which versions you actually tried.
Post the download links for the specific versions you tried.

and how many physical hard drives are in the machine you are trying to take an image of ?

Is there a version of this software that will work on hardware this old? I've used Clonezilla successfully on newer hardware, but when I wanted to clone my Socket 7 machine I gave up and used Norton's Ghost instead. A version of Clonezilla that would work on such old hardware would be great.

Considering 386 support was cut from the kernel after version 3.8, anything with a kernel version prior that cutoff should still work on those old machines IF they didn't compile the dist & kernel for i686 😀
edit: for 386, according to the changelog, anything prior to & including 2.1.2-17 (given the IF is true)

They have an .i486 version (2.2.3 was the last one apparently), I used it on my K6 some years ago.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/clonezilla/f … 86.iso/download (the pages is horrible, but download should start after 5 sec).

Searching a Nexgen Nx586 with FPU, PM me if you have one. I have some Athlon MP systems and cookies.

Thanks for this, I will give it a try. When I tried a much newer version of Clonezilla on an older system and was confronted with the minimum memory being far more than the old system was capable of, I did try to find an older version of Clonezilla but it was one of those cases where search engines failed me because they aren't as good as they used to be (especially for finding older stuff) and I gave up in frustration. I found a version of Norton's Ghost that worked, but I then found out that having Ghost installed on an early Win9x machine interfered with installing Power DVD (Power DVD couldn't find the region for the DVDROM when Ghost was installed) so I stopped using it.
