So what Pentium only enhancements does this version have that the others don't?

I've not played it or any of the mechwarrior series myself but this site suggests that the Pentium edition was the same as the windows 95 version:

According to the Mechwarrior 2 FAQ that's still floating around the net (http://www.oocities.org/mechwarrior2_3d/FAQ.htm#Answer_XVI):

"According to what Dan Kegel has said in alt.games.mechwarrior2, they're the same exact thing. It was just an attempt by the Activision marketing department to capitalize on the Pentium brand name. They later dropped the Pentium name for just plain "Win95" though there still seems to be some new leftover "Pentium Edition" stock floating around."

A quick bit of digging elsewhere on Google suggests that the Win95 version was a generic Direct3d version... If your hardware supported windows and Direct3d then I guess you'd have no issues running it whatever brand the processor was.

From Moby Games (http://www.mobygames.com/game/mechwarrior-2-3 … -century-combat):
"Mechwarrior 2 straddled the boundaries of DOS and 3D accelerator cards. As a result, several DOS-but-3D-accelerator-only versions were released specifically for certain chipsets to be bundled by OEMS with their cards. (Later releases, including a "Titanium" version, include all released versions as well as a generic Direct3D version for Windows 95.)"

The Mechwarrior 2 FAQ is correct. It's the same as the Win95 version. Also see this thread for more info: http://www.mech2.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=281

I own the Win95 version and it's definitely NOT Direct3D. It is DirectX2, but else it looks like it's DOS version, just that you can't run in higher res than 640x480.

The Mechwarrior 2 OEM 3D accelerated versions were ALL Windows 95. Only version to include Direct3D support were the Titanium versions which you already mentioned, but they run on a completely different engine and look/play differently.

Uhm, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct3d

This resulted in the first version of Direct3D that shipped in DirectX 2.0 and DirectX 3.0.

assuming you are refering to vetz's post above, he means that the game used directdraw , it is irrelevant if d3d or d4d appeared on dx2.0

No, vetz said nothing about Direct Draw. Vetz says;

it's definitely NOT Direct3D. It is DirectX2,

he says it's NOT D3D and it is directx2 , just use your "common sense" to deduct that it is directdraw... jeez....

I own it and about 20 other versions of MW2/GBL , the disc contents aren't the same, but I haven't checked what's different. There is also 1.0 and 1.1 versions of the Windows 95 ones. I'm still trying to collect all the OEM variants so I can check them all at once.

There is serveral versions also of Mercs.
