I think you are right Rich, on WBMAN's fansite is a documentation page: https://sites.google.com/site/waveblastergm/install

And it links to the documentation of the E-mu Sound Engine module! (01_INTRO.PDF)

Hehe i love this. The WB1 sound truely has something magical.

Hehe, U beat me to it... I surfed back here JUST to tell you about those manuals for the module over at WBMan's site 🤣!

Anyhow, after careful reading, I'm thinking that the daughterboard that is mounted in the unit (refer to the message thread and pic over at Quest Studios) is nothing but a reversed-connector WB1, and the MIDI CC 91 reverb effects are accomplished with an additional DSP chip (or chips) in the box itself.

HEHE, Crazy assed idea here... if the above is true, you could prolly use the module's box to house most ANY wavetable daughterboard, as long as there's enough room to mount it in the box with the existing connector 🤣! 😀

Agreed 10000%!!! 😀 Last year (or was it the previous year) I sold my WB1... I really miss my old WB1 😢

But DAAUMN! A WB1 in it's own external housing with MIDI IN and OUT (meaning compatibility with most any semi-modern PC), AAAANDDD REVERB????? DROOL! 😀

Hehe, crazy indeed 😁 I think it's something unique for a MIDI Module, a soundcard in a box... Lol.

I read on an old review of the E-mu Sound Engine that it was the FIRST American GM Module! Source: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1995_articles … oundengine.html

Can you recommend me a way to find one, Rich? Ebay has dropped support for 'Wanted' adds. I put an add on marktplaats.nl , the 'Dutch Ebay' already.

Actually, there is the "DOXBox" unit (if it's still sold by the German company that manufactures it), as well as several homebrew projects that I've read about.... folks making external enclosures with MIDI IN/OUT and stereo outputs for most any wavetable daughterboards 😀

Yep, the first one 😀 And like I've replied previously, the Proteus line of rack mounted modules were not (even though the WB1 was based on them).

I have no idea, other than EBay.

BTW, on the topic of WaveBlasters...

The first edition of the WaveBlaster was GREAT, while "WaveBlaster II" was PURE CRAP!

I remember buying a WB2 when it first hit the market years ago, as the EMU8K chip on that daughterboard ALSO provided reverb and chorus effects. I was drooling on my way home thinking about it; as, although the WB1 sounded GREAT, it was "dry" as a bone... no reverb or chorus.

After installing the WB2 and giving it a whirl, I thought something must be wrong with my ears; as the WB2 - even with the reverb and chorus - sounded like pure CRAP$HOT compared to my WB1. I then quickly discovered that the WB2 only had 2 meg of ROM samples (verses the 4 megs of ROM samples on the WB1) <aarrgghh>!

I repackaged the WB2 up, and got my money refunded the exact same day!

Am i right that it has the same instrument samples as the AWE cards, 1mbgm.sf2 ? (Yeah, i know, WB2 has 2MB ROM 😉 )

I dunno if the WB2 has the same samples as the AWE32's onboard ROM... although the AWE32's is a 1MB ROM, and the WB2 is a 2MB ROM, they sounded QUITE CLOSE compared to each other (if my fading memory is still working 🤣); as I had my WB1 (and then that crapola WB2 that I returned to the store mounted on one of my AWE32 cards).

As far as the WB1, *most* of it's samples on it's 4MB ROM are the same as the Proteus 1/2/3 modules (of course, with additional samples as we've discussed previously; e.g. the Overdriven and Distortion Guitars).

It's so NOT Creative's style to produce a MIDI Card that combines three high-end Sound Modules 😮 I love the drums on the Wave Blaster 1 by the way :p They are so tinny, yet very balancing in almost every composition.

Same here... the Orchestral set, as well as the Power set 😀

(EDIT) Oh, and good gawd... the ***OBOE*** :me_absolutely_MELTS_at_the_sound: ! 😀

^^ Is that for the Waveblaster 1 or Soundengine?

I don't know what the going rate is today, but I bought my Soundengine a couple of years ago at around £30 + shipping. However, many things are scarcer and dearer today, so it's basically your call...

Ok, I'm really confused right now, but of course, my brain isn't what it used to be 🤣... aren't you M. Bow#$%^ (censored for privacy) who is currently on my Facebook friends list since I sold it to (him/you)?

Rich, is € 150 a reasonable price for a Sound Engine? That's 205,53 USD

To tell the truth, I really don't know. As other have posted here, they seem to be rarer that hen's teeth 🤣. This thread even sparked my interest, and last night I Googled for well over an hour... didn't find a single one up for sale.

Hell yeah! I'm gonna record full soundtracks of games like Duke Nukem 3D, Descent, Raptor, Nitemare 3D etc.

And of course i'll take any request 😁

AND, i will also record the EXTENDED Grabbag (Duke Nukem 3D theme), because Lee Jackson is going to release the original midi file, used to record the Redbook Audio version!

He will release both GM and GS versions of it 😁 He was first thinking of selling it, but he made up his mind. We're gonna get it for free 😁

I've been wanting it for years too!
