Now it does explain 😉 Your results are missing from the spreadsheet - so with the ones in it, it looked like Ali5 is slow.

What Quake version did you use? With v1.06 I get 53.5 fps (233MHz and Voodoo 3 3000 PCI - didn't test it with TNT2 M64).

Must have been the latest shareware version of Quake, but not sure 😀

I think 1.06 is the latest shareware.

I guess 3Dbench is more of a gaming benchmark then just a CPU one. In the past I never tested it with different video cards and it can make quite a difference.

1.06 is the latest shareware. However note that there's a Quake benchmark database out there based on the old 0.91 shareware that also has "mysteriously slower" 1.01 benchmarks. The only visual change 1.01 had (1.00 really) is 64 colormap levels for overbright.

1.07/1.08 ditched the brown menu background and redone the sound effect spatialization.

Yea put an ISA card into a fast machine and see 3dbench come to a halt 😀

Looks like this spreadsheet needs a bit of a cleanup now. Needs some clearer section dividers, and redone numbering. Can't really tell where 486 ends and Pentium begins now.

WinXP : PIII 1.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 73GB SCSI HDD, Matrox Parhelia, SB Audigy 2.
Win98se : K6-3+ 500MHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Matrox Millennium G400 MAX, Voodoo 2, SW1000XG.
DOS6.22 : Intel DX4, 64MB RAM, 1.6GB HDD, Diamond Stealth64 DRAM, GUS 1MB, SB16.

Hmm someone has totally messed it up 🙁

I've restored it to the point just before someone messed with it.

I've done some testing with P-233MMX on Gigabyte GA-5AX oc'ed to 250, 300, 315 and 330MHz. 330 is only 3dbench stable, Quake crashes almost immediately after starting demo1. Results for Pentium-MMX and K6-3 are added to the spreadsheet.

I searched but nothing concrete popped up... Is there a list of the best/fastest DOS graphic cards? I just tested some PCI ones on P-I 133MHz and the results can differ up to 25% from Trident to Matrox, Tseng and TNT2. But doesn't have to be PCI only... AGP/PCIe would also be interesting - some definite list of the best graphic cards for DOS.

Have added to the spreadsheet:
Intel-486DX-33-1-33-Asus-ISA-486-SIS 401/402-258kB-ISA-Trident TVGA 8900C-1MB-pewpewpew-17.2

Now that I've inserted a row, how do I adjust the number sequence of Column A?
