Hi all,

When running this game in hercules mode, there is a problem of "No memory".
This problem doesn't appear when in VGA or CGA .
Please help me. Thanks.

I can't read it So I can't pass the copy protection in Hercules mode.

I also get the corrupted font with the hercules machine type, but it appears the interpreter version makes a difference. Of course you can cheat and load Magic Key, then run the game with "sierra -c", but you probably already know that. A somewhat involved solution is to use the Gold Rush interpreter (v3.002.149) with a small modification. The hercules support in this later AGIv3 interpreter seems to work correctly. Copy the AGI and *.OVL files from Gold Rush, then search in AGI for the string "IDX", and immediately before that you will find the "GR" bytes that should be changed to "MH" so the interpreter will open the Manhunter data files.

My Manhunter floppy images do not even have the HGC_FONT file located on the disk, although HGC_OBJS.OVL and HGC_GRAF.OVL are present.

Manhunter 2 also uses AGI 3.002.149.

Apparently there is a version floating around that fixed the support for Hercules, as seen here :

Great Hierophant beat me to it, I was thinking that the HGC_FONT might have been missing, but without it, the game will not even start. Using a cracked version would bypass the copy protection, but the font problem, of course, would still persist. I tried the same edit with the AGI from MH2 and it does fix the fonts with Hercules, too. It does not with the AGI from KQ4AGI v2.2, interp. 3.002.086, even though Hercules graphics works in KQ4AGI.

It doesn't really matter which AGIv3 game you source the v3.002.149 (version number can be found in AGIDATA.OVL) interpreter from, but you will have to edit the game data file prefix code in any case. On a side note, KQ4AGI v2.0 that contains the "Beam Me" easter egg does not work properly with later AGIv3 interpreters -- Rosella walks backwards. Later versions of KQ4AGI where the easter egg was removed seem to work OK with later AGIv3 interpreters. Point being that you can't always get away with mixing and matching the data files and interpreters.

I get the corrupted font with the hercules machine type too.
But I copy the file "HGC_FONT" from "Police Quest-In Pursuit of the Death Angel (1987)" to fix that.
I think there maybe some memory access issue when in hercules mode .
Modify "memsize=" in dosbox.conf doesn't help.

Amount of "No Memory" seems effected by cycles of DOSBox.
Is this problem able to be fixed without replace AGI ?
After replace the AGI Interpreter of Gold Rush, Manhunter works in hercules mode.
But the display seems to be "compressed" .
I wonder at how the screenshots of Mobygames generated.

Probably has been created by running the game within ScummVM. 🤑

I found that the "lack of memory" problem can be skipped before display error message by press <Enter>.

This could also explain why Mobygames have these Hercules screenshots.
And it does not have the screenshot just after error occurs.
