I have a big problem only with czech version of Spellcross, all other DOS games works fine with DOSbox.
I'm using a pure DOSbox 0.73 without any frontend on Windows Vista x64 Home Basic.

I tryed to use an image of Spellcross game and original CD too. When I run an installer called INSTALUJ.EXE everything works fine until the point when not working Sound System Configuration Utility automaticly appers after instalation:
http://yfrog.com/0rspellcrosserror2soundj
then may happend two things depended probably on cpu setings:

1) DOSbox just crash with this message and few seconds after close itself.
http://yfrog.com/5jspellcrossdosbox073erroj

2) DOSbox stucks on that Sound settings menu, where you can only move with mouse cursor, but its not complete so you can't set nothing and must close DOSbox manually, you can see it on that first screenshot. And Status windows in this moment looks like this:
http://yfrog.com/0mspellcrosserror2j

In both cases I can set Sound setting later from installed directory and game can be run too. Game works fine with sound and redbook audio too, but videos doesn't work at all.

I tryed many different DOSbox settings, even that default one, but nothing helped to me. Now I'm using this settings:

# This is the configurationfile for DOSBox 0.73.

I assume you have tried using core=normal ?
That -freesize 30000 is usual, and very high. Is it really necessary?
Tried running LOADFIX before running the installer?

Play around with:

core:
cputupe:
Machine

I'm not familiar with this game but alot of people forget to mount their CDROM as well in DOSBox. If the game is looking there for videos and you aren't mounting the CD then that may be why they do not work.

I tryed all 4 Core options. Didn't help me.
CPU type: I tryed Pentium_slow and auto only, I remember this game worked fine only with pentium procesors, it was unplayable with anything slower. So slower modes are useless for this game.
Machine: instaler accepted only 3 svga cards from list, but that didn't help me. Same problem is with other two modes too.
I mounted CD image as D correctly, of course. Redbook audio (CD audiotracks) worked in game, so it must be OK!

What exactly is LOADFIX? I don't know anything about that.

I tryed to run instalation with loadfix with 32, 64, 128 and 256kb setting. It didn't work. When I used 256kb soud setup didn't run with not enough memory mesage.

But, when I tryed the to run sound setup with 64kb and then game with the same value it started to work with videos.
It looks game runs correctly now!

Thanks a lot! 😁

EDIT:
Running game or setup with loadfix isn't important at all. Problem is somewhere in instaler. File SPELCROS.CD is important for playing of videos, but it's not created if that sound setup freeze. But from some weird reason it is created only if sound setup cannot be run becouse not enough of memory.

Its strange, instalation work corectly in XP without DOSbox.
