Hi Everybody!

I have tried this Tutorial, (Thanks for It!) but i had a Problem in Step 3. After restarting DOSBox and enter "Format C: /S" i see the Message "Ungültiger Laufwerksbuchstabe" in Eng. it means Invalid Drive Letter.
I Have tried it Step by Step by the Tutorial, who is the Problem?

So, i want ask too, how i can use external Drives and/or more mounted Images after starting a MS-DOS Session with the Boot-Command?
If found no Way to mount my CD-ROM Drive and additional Drive Images from the MS-DOS Session.
Drives mounted before calling the Boot-Command will be lost, but why?

Thx for Help,
greetings, Sonja

PS: Sorry for my bad English.

Welcome to the forum, Sonja!

Which tutorial do you mean? The link you've posted just points to the "DOSBox guides" forum, not a specific guide.

Could you describe what you are trying to do with the hd image?

You tried the FORMAT *after* you rebooted DOSBox from the image?

Thanks for Welcome.

If have fixed the Link, i mean the Tutorial "Sample usage of a harddisc image in DOSBOX".

After creating the Partition in the Image i have restart DOSBox, and run this more Times, with altimes the same Error.

mount d: G:\DOSBox
imgmount 2 D:\Win311.img -size 512,2080,16,63 -fs none

I type:

boot D:\DOS622.ima

Then typing:

Format C: /S

Here comes the Error.

mount d: G:\DOSBox
imgmount 2 D:\Win311.img -size 512,2080,16,63 -fs none

Did you try using:

imgmount 2 D:\Win311.img -size 512,63,16,2080 -fs fat

?

Also consider that the maximum I succeeded using is 1021.

Furthermore have a look at this:
Maximum HardDisk size emulation.

bps,spc,hpc,cyl
bps=bypes per sector (512 always)
spc=sectors per cylinder (hm shouldn't this be sph?)
hpc=heads per cylinder
cyl=total cylinders

So 512,63,16,2080 should be the correct one.
Or wait for dosbox 0.71 and screw the -size parameter completely.

Now i have fixed the Problem, by using a Image of 503 MB, and my -size Parameter was not in the correct Order.
I must change to 503 MB, the 1 GB Image with right Parameters dosn't found when trying formating C:.

Thx for the Hint. 😀

The Format C: /S dosn't work again, but this time the Error was another: Displaying always insert a MS-DOS Diskette into Drive A 😳
So i have only Format drive C and than used the SYS Command, this worked.

But why max. is 503 MB?
I think the Harddrive Mode "Normal" can provide 512 MB and for more it must be LBA in a Real PC.

Now i have this for 2 Images:

[autoexec]
# Zeilen in diesem Abschnitt werden beim Start von DOSBox als Befehle ausgeführt:
@ECHO OFF
#Choice /T:J,5 Boot MS-DOS?
Choice Boot MS-DOS?
If ErrorLevel==2 goto Emulate

mount X: G:\DosBox
mount A A:\ -t floppy
imgmount C X:\Master.img -size 512,63,16,1021 -fs fat
#imgmount D X:\Slave.img -size 512,63,16,1021 -fs fat
imgmount 3 X:\Slave.img -size 512,63,16,1021 -fs none
mount E P:\ -t cdrom -usecd 1 -ioctl
#boot X:\DOS7.ima
boot -l c
Goto End

:Emulate
mount c g:\DOSBox -freesize 512 > NUL
c:\Autoexec.bat

:End

I don't know, why #imgmount D X:\Slave.img -size 512,63,16,1021 -fs fat dosn't work, but its work with the -fs none Parameter (see below).

The real Problem is now, who i get the physical Floppy & CD-ROM Drive in the MS-DOS Session?
After booting MS-DOS, both does not exist.

This is pity. 😢

Will this and greater Images be available in the Future?

Thanks Qbix, for this great Tool!

cdrom maybe, floppy very unlikely, real HD/local path never.
What are you trying to do? In general copying files using the -fat mounted
drives (before (!) booting them) works fine.

I wanna try to set up MS-DOS as the default OS in DOSBox, some DOS-Tools gives me the Error Message "Invalid DOS-Version" in the DOS-Box DOS, some Commands are missing in DOSBox and i'm missing the Config.sys.

Which commands exactly report errors?

As to the floppies and CD-ROM's, you can transport the content of a floppy disk or of a CD-ROM to a folder on your computer using tools as WinImage and then copy them into the DOSBox hard disk image you created still using WinImage.

If the CD-ROM content is too big for your virtual hard disk you can try creating a second hard disk and mount both hard disks in DOSBox and then let us know what happened, although I don't think that would work.

Setting der Version with "Set Ver" has no effect.
The most external Commands from MS-DOS 6.22 / 7.0 display this Error Message.
I.E. Share.exe, used for Win32s cannot start.

I already use 2 Images 😉 (see below)

I tried to copy Files & directories with xcopy, but it has the Version Error.
So i use the Norton Commander, there seems it copy, but the Files are not copied to the mounted Image and it finally crash DOSBox.

So the only Way i see in DOSBox DOS is to create & copy each Directry seperatly 😵

If i Boot MS-DOS then the Copy from one Image to the other is with xcopy and Norton Commander no Problem. Installing Wfw works fine.

Problem with CDs are, if they > 503 MB or the Programm is searching for the CD Drive.
Mount an .iso File will be lost after Boot.

I found out another Problem, imgmount with "-fs fat" does not work with extended Partitons (It Message Cannot Mount Image), this was the reason, why only "imgmount 3 X:\Slave.img -size 512,63,16,1021 -fs none" (see below) worked.
I always used extended Partitions at the 2nd Harddrive, now i know, i should not to this in DOSBox.

Setting der Version with "Set Ver" has no effect.

How do you determine that?

I.E. Share.exe, used for Win32s cannot start.

That doesn't run under plain dosbox anyways, but don't remember it was
needed for win32s.
Besides that, win32s isn't fully supported.

Oh and be sure to use dosbox 0.70 or later.

I Added "VER SET 6.22" than check with "VER" and tried call xcopy, but there is the same Message.

Okay, thats work better.

VER SET should show an Error if the Parameters not correct.

Thx to all,
Good Night,
Sonja
