I'm using DOSBox 0.74 (installed from the Software Center) on Ubuntu 64-bit. PC speaker sound effects have an echo effect in some games but only when DOSBox is in fullscreen mode.

Here's a video to demonstrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKHHCb4dQi4

The effect is most obvious in CD-Man when you increase the speed in the game's options menu above 80 but it also happens in Duke Nukem 1. I also tested Commander Keen 1, Stunts and Wolfenstein 3D but they didn't seem to have any problems.

Also, if I boot into Windows on the same machine and use DOSBox 0.74 Windows version there're no such problems.

Any ideas?

the pcspeaker sound is send to the soundcard in your PC,
so does it happen with other emulated sound types as well ?

How to ask questions the smart way!

Nope

EDIT: If I increase the "prebuffer" option to ~100 in dosbox.conf the echo disappears but the sound effects sound much more high-piched than usual (again, only in fullscreen mode).

I noticed another sound related issue under Ubuntu.

I installed TiMidity++ and tried some games with MIDI music. Sometimes the music gets "corrupted" (lots of crackling, almost like static noice but you can still hear the melody).

Guess I'll have to use Windows to play DOS games...
