The funny thing will be his face after getting such an adapter, connecting the CD-Rom and still not being able to access the CD after the boot command 😉
And then he will come here and accuse Dosbox of being a bad program, since clearly it should work. After all the mount command works fine before... 😉
To the OP, just another food for thought, why do you expect a CD-Rom connected via USB to work better than a SATA one? Natively DOS 6.22 doesn't support USB as well... (but yeah there are some experimental USB drivers for dos that work for some special hardware). Not that it matters since this isn'tthe problem when you use dosbox 😉

I repeat: ONCE YOU USE THE BOOT COMMAND IN DOSBOX 0.74 YOU CAN'T USE YOUR CD-ROM.
And that has nothing to do with sata. dosbox doesn't care about sata
You say that and I've experienced different, and the guy above you even is telling me different.

BUT I'm not here for DOSBOX support, Like I said I don't care what DOSBOX does or doesn't support I will still run into this problem with my CDROM and DOS 6.22. It won't do any good to start working on something else since I'll wind up confronting this problem anyways.
Also nothing makes me think I can fix my problem with the USB adapter, but since DOS 6.22 was released the same year that USB was being implemented and instead of using a SATA CDROM I'll be using IDE ATA CDROM, I figure there might be a chance.

I don't want DOSBOX help. If I wanted DOSBOX help I would have posted in DOSBOX. I wouldn't be so upset if you moved me to DOS but not DOSBOX.

And no I will not make any accusations if and when DOSBOX becomes a staple, I'll just say, "It's not for me"

No, he's writing it works with a special build of Dosbox SVN (not 0.74) that has the patch build in that makes this work. Big difference.

You don't understand. The reason why it doesn't work is Dosbox. As long as you are doing this in Dosbox it is a dosbox problem. Hence it does work if you use the patched version by yhkwong. With this special version EVERY CD-Rom connected to the computer will work, no matter whether it is SATA, USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt (as long as the host can use it, Dosbox will be able to do so too).

you really have problems reading and processing what you read, right?

Why do you say you are using DOSBox if you are not. Why even mention DOSBox if you are booting your physical PC to DOS. Booting DOS in DOSBox is NOT the same as booting your computer to DOS.

You don't understand DOS 6.22 isn't natively compatible with SATA "I NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM FIRST". I don't need windows 7 or DOSBOX to boot DOS and figure this out. the only reason I want an emu is to avoid shutting down. When I fix this problem if I still have a ploblem I'll probly switch emu's to get the support I need. but for now let's focus on the problem at hand. I have a SATA that I need to make work with DOS 6.22 with or without an emu.

I figure never too much info. I let you guys squabble(I actually didn't expect you to squabble though) and hope something good comes out of it. If you guys turn out to be right about DOSBOX not being able to use it once I get it fixed then I'll just find an emu that meets my needs(Which turns up you guys gave me plenty of outlook on the features of diff. emus.).
Then please write what you want. Much earlier I wrote that you need to be more precise.
If you want to do this in pure Dos you boot from the start on your computer, a sata drive won't work. An USB one most likely will not but might with drivers.
So that is that, if you want help with that, don't mention dosbox.
If your goal is to do that with dosbox, then you don't need to tinker at all with drivers. You just need to use yhkwongs dosbox svn built. No matter what you do it will not work with lock stock dosbox 0.74.

No you don't understand. If you want to make this work with dosbox+dos 6.22 you just need a special build of dosbox. Nothing else. Because dosbox will emulate the underlying hardware so the booted dos will think it's an ide cd-rom. As you noticed without booting you can already use your cd-rom fine with dosbox through the mount command.
If your goal is to use an emulator anyway then just do it and don't put yourself through the ordeal of getting it to work in pure dos first...
then I'll just find an emu that meets my needs
Use bochs.
