we want to run old hardware via an old hp-program (coming in the td0-format), which requests ms-dos 3.0 to 3.5. with newer ms-dos-versions, the software does not work (as it seems). so, we thought of using dosbox (instead of using an old pc). question: does dosbox emulate these old ms-dos-versions?

thanks!

The command Qbix posted just changes the "version" of MS-DOS that programs see in DOSBox if they check for that value. It's doesn't actually change anything emulation wise.

So if your program say's it "Requires MS-DOS 3.0" when you execute it, then you try the command. If it works then that's your fix.

DOSBox doesn't really emulate any version of MS-DOS. It tries to emulate enough so that games and such will install without too much trouble.

Some programs (and installers) will ask the system such questions as "What version of MS-DOS is this please?" and DOSBox will normally lie and say "It is 5.00".

With the VER command, you can tell DOSBox to lie in a different way, and report "It is 3.00" if that will make your old program happy.
