Are there any wrappers/bridges for SB cards?

I just wonder why Creative didn't undertook the development of such a feature.

For me it's ridiculous having to have both DOS and Win2k on the same machine to have the pleasure of playing some good old titles.

Not to tick off Vlad, but the only application I have heard that will do something like this is SoundFX 2000. It will (as far as I have read) redirect YM3812 (OPL2) - aka Adlib - commands directly to the OPL2-or-compatible-or-emulated chip on your sound card. But that's all it does it for.

You can get SoundFX 2000 here: http://www.softsystem.co.uk/

However, why do that when you can use VDMSound's much-more-accurate emulation?

Actually it also does the EMU8k/EMU10k (whichever) that some games/trackers can use for custom MIDI wavetable synthesis + DSP effects. Registered version onky. 😀 But then again, GIVEIO.SYS does the same thing (although it efectively disables VDMSound as well).

In any case, why would you want a wrapper for SB?! The only reason(s) why VDMSound does not work with some games is independent of the actual SB emulation (in 99% of the cases it's some sort of Windows bug). And a "wrapper" would also require exclusive access to your soundcard (which means you wouldn't be able to use your soundcard while a DOS game is playing, e.g. for audio e-mail notification). So I really see no point in wrappers/bridges, it's more effort for less return -- why even bother thinking about it?!

Side topic:
One cool thing you could do, as a registered user, Vlad - is a feature comparison chart between the demo and registered version of SoundFX 2000 and VDMSound. Interested, Vlad? 😀

Registered user? Of what? SoundFX?! Ha! 😀 No, the stuff about the EMU is in the SFX2K README. Don't have the thing myself and wouldn't personally care for EMUxxK emulation.
