VDMSound - best thing ever made!!!

I really love VDMSound. VDMSound makes it possible for us to play old DOS games natively under Windows XP. But VDMSound stopped development after 2.0.4 in year 2001. Official site on sf.net is still: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=20091 I would quickly grab the source-code …

Re: DOSBox IPX emulation query....

I own 1 PC. Even if I did have a LAN I definitely know these old DOS games will work coz they use IPX and IPX works on LAN only. I am only interested in getting these old DOS games that use IPX LAN communications to work over internet. Hence why I need someone to help me test out GIT.

Blood Internet Multi-player List

This is to honor and keep Blood multi-player alive. It is still possible to play Blood over the internet or LAN under Windows XP SP2 or Vista*. There are 2 main working ways: 1 - DOSBox (XP/Vista, handle max 2 players because it's DOSBox) OR 2 - Hamachi (up to 8 players, 98/XP only, needs PC with 32 …

DOSBox IPX emulation query....

I notice DOSBox.conf file has a [ipx] # ipx -- Enable ipx over UDP/IP emulation. ipx=true setting. Does this emulate a fake IPX protocol, or does it really let users play DOSBox games network over the internet? For example, am wanting to play: - Syndicate Wars - Blood - Carmageddon - Command & …

Re: Retro Remake.... releasing classics as open-source...

Nope Blood source code is still definitely closed-source. There was partial alpha code which I think is used in Blood32 w/ Duke3D code (http://sf.net/projects/blood32/) but it's very very primitive. That's the thing about these games when another company buys the license. I emailed SCI enquiring …

Retro Remake.... releasing classics as open-source...

I was just reading about the retro remakes. A lot of them are very good and that's because of the company releasing the source code as open-source. But there are still many old games that are still kept closed-source. Many classics I really want to see open-source are: - Blood (currently owned/ …

Re: HELP: Sound Blaster 16 PCI not working :(

Yep, did both of these. The SET BLASTER also has 2 extra parameters. SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6 I got drivers from: http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/html/snddosdr.htm EAPCI.zip didn't work, even though I got the Ensoniq SB16PCI (I think). But SBPCI.zip one loads. Yep, I disabled the internal …

HELP: Sound Blaster 16 PCI not working :(

I just bought a Sound Blaster 16 PCI off eBay. I used Windows 98SE and boot into native DOS mode. When I try to run Creative SB16 drivers, it keeps on saying that it's detected am in Windows 95 mode. How??? Anyway, I manage to get "already-installed" drivers from: http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/ …

Re: MS-DOS 6.2 bootable cd

Okay, I don't need MS-DOS 6.2 anymore since I found out that the best MS-DOS version was in Win98SE. So now am trying to build a MS-DOS 7.0 bootable CD & installation - BUT for games, not generic. Here's what I found... In Win98 \WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD folder contains the Emergency Boot Disk (without …

MS-DOS 6.2 bootable cd

I had a search around and found an article of someone mentioning they got MS-DOS installation on bootable cd. I am wondering if anyone who has done this to let me know how they manage to do this? Best burning program is Nero Burning ROM. It specifies two types of bootable CD-ROMs: 1. CD-ROM (Boot) …

Re: (for those who own any) Creative Sound Blaster cards

Thanks for your replies: I have learnt that the last Creative Labs Sound Blaster card that comes with DOS drivers was Audigy 1. I have also tried DOSBox & VirtualPC. VirtualPC has stated that it has very bad DOS support and won't improve. DOSBox is not good at 3D DOS games, has jerky sounds and …

Re: (for those who own any) Creative Sound Blaster cards

1. DOSBox is getting better and got some ok results from it. Though 3D via DOSBox is very very slow. And if the DOS app has fast refreshes or updates then DOSBox can't handle it. 2. VDMSound is okay but doesn't always work very. I ran Blood before and it was jerky. VDMSound is a discontinued project …

Re: (for those who own any) Creative Sound Blaster cards

Is there any original Sound Blaster (16/AWE32/64) that is PCI ? What card would you recommend if I wanted to just make it 100% Sound Blaster compatible? I used to have various non-Creative sound cards ISA in the past, and I had to select Sound Blaster compatible when setting up PC demos and games. …

Re: (for those who own any) Creative Sound Blaster cards

Setting up EMS or NO EMS is alright, with Windows 98SE ready-made PIF/BAT files to reboot the PC into EMS or NO EMS modes. Many old skool sound cards had to be 100% Sound Blaster Pro compatible. Am sure Creative Sound Blaster 16 will do a good job. Am more interested in getting PC coder demos …
