On the PVI-486SP3, the onboard CMD640 IDE controller does not show up in PCI device lists (e.g. Speedsys has a PCI device list feature), so it seems to be connected via VLB.

I've been using the PVI-486SP3 with a 40 MHz bus for years and the speed boost with video cards is really worth it. Yeah, you can forget about G-Sync monitors for retro purposes, because the G-Sync module replaces the input logic and scaler found in a traditional monitor.

Can't really speak for P5A-B, but I use Jan Steunebrink's 1011 Beta 5 BIOS on a rev. 1.04 and on a rev 1.06 P5A board. I bet it's totally safe. 😉

Congrats on winning the Revision oldskool compo guys! This is no small feat considering it went up against several good entries on platforms which had strong scene support for decades (C64/Amiga). It's rather hard to understand the technical implications of using a bare IBM PC with CGA.
