Re: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I wish too 😀 - and hope i can start mine with a fresh install 😜 (Damned sound card again killed my whole PC) I can imagine myself at midnight when i will not count from 10 - 9 - 8..., but from 97% - 98% - 99% - 99% - 99% - CRASH! Happy New Year! 🤣

Re: Fall of the DOS Era

For me the "greatest game ever made for DOS" is Megarace II. I first played it on some 33MHz 4.86. Who created that game did an awesome work, especially the Tibet track is nice. (I think i first played this game more than 10 years before) I also liked Duke Nukem 3D, but in general i do not like such …

Re: Any way to have it all run behind the scenes?

I might be wrong, but as i remember it was me who asked for the same thing there what you wish. Currently the solution is to make some configuration files suitable for your games, then start making usual shortcuts for your games. When you created one, open it's propeties, and at the "executeable" …

MHz display panel circuity ???

Does anybody remember to those old PC cases which had TURBO button and a small two digit panel showing the speed of the PC ? I got one such panel, and as i liked those much, i built it in in one of my old PCs. It works fine, switches between "LO" and "HI". Now the "problem" is that i found that on …

Re: Is it allowed.

in DOS
QBasic (It is a DOS programming language) also had great communities years before, and many nice things came out from under them. Although i did not really finish any such game, but i also made attempts to do so, you may check out my site for such ( http://ruch.co.nr ). Sadly QB at about a year …

Re: Reprogramming the PIT

From now the squaker is really downloadable form my web page ( http://ruch.co.nr/ ) Since the last version i just made it a bit more functional so that now you can exit during playing, or set the volume (actually you can select from 4 pre - defined volumeforms with that). I also fixed up and …

Re: My high - end machines

(Huh, a little of time passed... :P ) I remember i looked through literally everything around the slot to find something what would identity how the BIOS chip should have been plugged in, but the only thing i found was the texts printed on the top of them. And as i could remember then the two chips …

Re: Reprogramming the PIT

As i said i have some "nameless" stupid XWave card (I say "nameless" since i never found this card anywhere on the Net, again, the family's dumb ideas, this one from 1998... Now they suffer this stupid halfly gov. paid crap which can not run anything properly for them, and it is impossible to …

Re: Reprogramming the PIT

Yes, i have Pinball Fantasies, it not only just plays MODs on the speaker, but fakes higher color depth in 16 color screen modes :) (by swapping fastly two different colored images, so as they alternate 35 times in a second, the two colors become looking like one) That game was designed with …

Re: Reprogramming the PIT

Stop doubting, download it on your PVIII 6000GHz, and see that it works! (But before create a DOS partition :P ). This absolutely not relies on the CPU's speed, only on the PIT. And the PIT always works at somewhat around 1,2MHz. Stupid bugs... Yesterday i did not notice it, but now i did, actually …

Re: Reprogramming the PIT

I guess this would work in even the most sensible paper based speakers as they usually tend to lose all their volume at around 15KHz - so 44KHz is way too much for them. It is not about the input rate, you not say too much by that i run it at faster rate as it must have to be ran with at least equal …

Re: Reprogramming the PIT

Then i am just a nightmare? A stupid vision? - download, and hear it before starting doubting :P (As i said pure DOS needed and any music converted to 22KHz 8bit mono RAW data - WinAmp can do this perfectly with it's disk writer plugin) By the way it can work by that the PIT can switch between …

Re: Reprogramming the PIT

 - i had seen that a few ones actually thought the thing interesting, so i thought it good to put up my new idea: 22KHz with true 8bit depth! This actually pushes the PIT to the absolute limits, so i doubt that anything better can be made except with reliing on the CPU - although the current …

Re: best values for some variables

I think a good setting for you as i set up DOSBox for a PC with somewhat similar alibities would be 18000 emulated cycles and 2 for frameskip. Frameskip will not really hurt as it skips from 70Hz (in 320x200, 256 colors), so by setting it to 2 you will get at around 23FPS which is enough. Troubles …

Re: Can someone help me out?

I just finished fixing an IBM ThinkPad 350C laptop from 1993 :) (Here is a pic of that machine, sadly i had not got camera...) http://www.mo5.com/obsolete/136-musee-histoire--ibm-thinkpad-350c.html It's case was broken, among that it broke a few other parts, i had to strengthen it with some metal, …
