Re: looking for a turn based game.

Yeah, I played a bit with the Tof8 mod. Perseverance is key. I managed to win around three battles with the frogs in the swamp, and another one against humans in the fort. Either you get your battle tactics right, and have some lucky rolls of the dice, or die...

Re: looking for a turn based game.

Something turn based but not in the strategy vein is the RPG Temple of Elemental Evil. Arguably the best turn based strategic combat RPG ever (and oft criticised as the most boring RPG ever, for the same reason) . Not sure if there is a Vista patch.

Excellent. The alternatives are to build a P4 system, with industrial mobos available with ISA slots, usually based on the 845 chipset (numerous), although a single ISA slot can be had with the 875 chipset (rare). However, given your advice, it appears my perseverance with a P3 based system, and my …

RG100, should have known a fellow Asus P2b/P3b obsessive would know the answer! Thanx. 1992 saw the introduction of the SB16 and the SCC-1, which coincides with the era I too am most interested in. Which means a max'd out P3 system maybe good for covering late-ish DOS and win98 games, while still …

Speed sensitive DOS games...

Can someone provide a rough idea as to what era DOS games stopped being CPU speed sensitive? Such knowledge would be helpful when making decisions regarding the building of retro systems. Yes, Dosbox rules supreme, but I can't resist making a machine that covers a broad spectrum of era's, especially …

Thanks 5u3. Its working fine udner windows and in the diagnostic utility, especially after I ironed out some conflicts with other devices. My Matrox G450 uses interupt 5, so I have gone with 7. I disabled the CT4810, and a LPT printer port too. ALbion setup under DOS does not detect the card. I …

Some progress has been made. I got a set of the creative win9x/dos drivers and utilites from Keropi over at the English Amiga Board - thanks Keropi! This time, during diagnosis, the soundcard was configured, and I could hear the test music provided at the end of setup. The setup utility changed the …

In my case I only need an ISA card for a particular game - Turrican 2 from the 386 era. It won't work with a pci card since it does not like EMS. I will also get around to plaing UFO X-com and Ultima Underworld and WOrlds of Ultima series. I have a Roland SCC-1 for midi, and an LAPC which I was …
