Re: Windows Longhorn screenshots

in Milliways
Um... yeah. Have you tried running it in compatibility modes? Have you tried turning the "hardware acceleration" for your SOUND down to "Basic"? (There is an issue, at least in FF8, with the SB Audigy's drivers (eg. they really suck) that causes movies to studder for whatever reason. Turning …

wait a sec... FFVII still sucks on XP! On top of the fact that the sound is screwed up, it crashes in certain places on XP - most noteably on the chocobo races. Eidos in fact says that FFVII shouldn't be run on XP, iirc. What on earth about FFVII could make you like XP!? And those are some cool …

Re: my computer! :)

In any case, I like to encode to HuffYUV lossless video, then clean it up and convert it to DivX5 later. Unlike my current TV card, my old one could capture uncompressed, so that it could be recompressed on the fly. Also, the TV software that came with my old TV card didn't split avi's at the 2gb …

Re: whata ima gonna getta

hehe - that's true 😀 i'm thinking someday, if i get bored enough, i'll hook my tv out into the input on my tv card... so i could see my computer displaying my computer displaying my computer displaying... it'd be so cool! i wonder if it'd crash, hehe 😀

Re: my computer! :)

I've never heard of hardware based MPEG-4 encoders... also, on *most* systems, real time MPEG-4 software compression sucks. Encoding MPEG-4 on my 1.4GHz Pentium 4 usually occurs at 16fps. NTSC is usually broadcast at ~30fps, iirc. So, real time MPEG-4 software compression can't keep up. That, and it …

Re: whata ima gonna getta

On my GeForce3 Ti500, I can only get TV out working with an application called TVTool... setting dual view on, I can see stuff on both my desktop and on my TV. Although, at lower resolutions, it looks horrible on the TV, and at higher resolutions, the monitor gets all messed up. I usually use a …

Re: My neverending upgrade project

The memory performance of a P4 2.4ghz will be FAR greater than that of an Athlon 1800 but almost all home tasks aren't bandwidth intensive and devoting your money into the P4 for that purpose is just a waste. Wouldn't the only bandwidth only be avialable on P4 systems that used RD-RAM, as opposed …

Re: my computer! :)

I might get a new capture card when they come out with ones with onboard MPEG-4 encoding chips :) I mean, HDTV takes up lots of space, and even if I wasn't watching HDTV, I'd still convert it to MPEG-4 anyways... That, and it could have PVR functionality, without having to sign up for a pay-to- …

Re: my computer! :)

well... I've had it up to here with my Hauppage card, and I don't think I'll ever get a Hauppage card. Periodically, the Schedualer won't let me add anything, so I'll have to remove everything, and add it all over again. And now, I can't even open the TV window - rebooting didn't help. Uninstalling …

Re: my computer! :)

yeah... I've had my problems with my Hauppage PVR card as well... their software is buggy, and their customer support is even worse... of course, it's not like the alternatives are much better :( Although... my first TV card, a simple Hauppage WinTV-pci couldn't do fullscreen in Windows 98se, but it …

I find it rather annoying how PC controllers seem rather... lacking. My Logitech WingMan USB, while not a bad controller, isn't great - most console controllers have start / stop buttons, and most controllers have a much better directional pad... ah well... oh - and my graphics card is an nVidia …

Re: DosFreak's Superl33t DIY box

Err, actually, l33t boxen require LESS money. Well, less than getting a l33t Alienware or Falcon. yeah... i'm sure a pre-built pc with four 120gb hard drives would be more expensive then a homemade one, but that's not to say that four 120gb hard drives aren't expensive :P well... the four hard …

Re: Final Fantasy 7

Seriously, though. ePSXe + Ethereal SPU + Pete's OpenGL GPU + Final Fantasy VII PSX + a beefy computer = bliss. The only problem (at least with my video card) is that bilinear filtering makes ugly green lines, so I can't use it. :/ That's much better than my configuration! I was doing the 2xSaI …

Re: DVD Games, where art thou?

Yeah - they do break all the standards - that's apparently why you have to enable overburning in Nero to burn them, and their sizes aren't specified in the ATIP...
