wait a sec... FFVII still sucks on XP! On top of the fact that the sound is screwed up, it crashes in certain places on XP - most noteably on the chocobo races. Eidos in fact says that FFVII shouldn't be run on XP, iirc. What on earth about FFVII could make you like XP!? And those are some cool …

In any case, I like to encode to HuffYUV lossless video, then clean it up and convert it to DivX5 later. Unlike my current TV card, my old one could capture uncompressed, so that it could be recompressed on the fly. Also, the TV software that came with my old TV card didn't split avi's at the 2gb …

I've never heard of hardware based MPEG-4 encoders... also, on *most* systems, real time MPEG-4 software compression sucks. Encoding MPEG-4 on my 1.4GHz Pentium 4 usually occurs at 16fps.
