Re: Problems with Doom2 in DosBox .62

At least one good reason to want to run DooM in DOSBox: playback of old demos recorded with older versions of the game that aren't supported with the modern source ports. Many source ports have very patchy demoplay support anyway. Also, some speedrun competitions still require that you run vanilla …

Re: Cubic Player 1.7 works now!

Much better than XMPlay, WinAMP, MODPlug, or etc have ever been. (except for IT playback Sticking Tongue Out) Not being a MOD aficionado myself, care to clarify how? I hear people talk about differences in MOD playback quality between players, and while I can tell the difference between MODplug ( …

Re: dro / adplug / adlib ripping project

Some comparisons between Adplug LAA and "real" Adlib output. "Real" in airquotes because it's recorded using DOSBox's WAV output ability, but I've compared it with the real thing and my ear can't really find any difference. Day of the Tentacle - Opening Credits: MP3 vs LAA Indiana Jones and the Fate …

Re: dro / adplug / adlib ripping project

Heya, sorry I was away on vacation. Very interesting info, philhassey. 1. does the scumm resource file contain a patchset datafile? Not being a programmer (at least not of the low-level sort) I'm not sure. I have however done lots of fishing around the in resource files with ScummEX/Scumm Revisited …

Re: dro / adplug / adlib ripping project

Tangentially related, but if you are a contributor to the Adplug project (or are tinkering with it on your own) and you care about this sort of thing, Adplug still doesn't correctly play back LucasArts music files (LAA, or ADL if you've extracted them directly from the resource files with something …

Re: 3DFX and DOSBox

But to memory a very small number of dos games had 3dfx graphics in them. GLQuake and Chasm are 2 that quickly come to mind. GLQuake was a win32-only program as far as I know, like WinQuake with a GL renderer. I believe there was a DOS version of VQuake, the Rendition Verite-optimized version of …

Re: Syndicate crashes DOSBox 0.61

About the in-game hangings, believe it or not it used to happen to me as well when I tried to run the original Syndicate Plus CD on a Pentium II system. Try this: If you have the Plus CD, install only the SB version and use the above mentioned settings (normal core, 16 Mb RAM), don't use the SB16 …

Syndicate crashes DOSBox 0.61

I've searched the forums for related topics and couldn't find one. Syndicate seems to crash DOSBox (official 0.61 release) after the game has been running for several (5-10) minutes, often while running around after completing a mission. The crash renders the main screen blank (happens in both …

Re: No sound coming through

Make sure the soundcard is configured properly in MoM's sound setup utility (should be INSTALL.EXE in the game directory). If you're using the default DOSBox settings, it'll be something like Port 220, IRQ 7, DMA 1... if you've worked with DOS before you know the drill.
