Serial modems

in PC Emulation
I've been trying to get 2 external modems I picked up from a local thrift store to work and I seem to be running into a strange issue. Both modems initialize properly (a USR 56k V.90 and a Best Data Smart One 56sx). I can tell the commands I am feeding them are doing something (clicks on atd, whines …

Re: How can i speed up my serial port?

He's talking about the port speed. The port speed in DOSBox is limited due to UART emulation. I tried to use a program like this to interface with my car's on-board diagnostics computer, but the port speed and real-time priority required for the program to work could not be achieved by DOSBox. Sorry …

Re: Cubic Player in DOSBox 0.72 under Linux

I just looked at the readme. It does not mention anything about Tandy sound emulation causing issues with any software, nor have I read any documentation anywhere stating Cubic Player has issues with Tandy hardware. In fact, I have read about past experiences of users on Tandy machines running CP/ …

Re: need packet driver for BBS software

The packet driver it's referring to is the hardware driver for your network device. I assume it's asking for it because it provides some kind of TCP connectivity such as telnet access or BBS linking. Normally, these would be obtained from the hardware manufacturer, however, DOSBox provides an …

Cubic Player in DOSBox 0.72 under Linux

I really don't know why this is happening, but for some reason, I cannot get Cubic Player to play anything in Fedora 8. Using the last version of Open Cubic Player and Cubic Player 1.7, the screen where you would see the notes and everything comes up, but does nothing and shows no loaded samples. …

Re: On the subject of modem emulation

It's a door game. It's only intended to be executed by a BBS with a modem connection. Most are hardcoded to look for the COM port status the BBS reports it's using. Null-modem connections were never used for BBS's and this BBS in particular only has settings to pass AT commands to a modem to …

Re: On the subject of modem emulation

Thanks for your quick response, h-a-l-9000. I wasn't aware that software handshaking was involved in the Zmodem protocol. I can't say I know much about the protocol to begin with. I also wasn't aware that the null-modem options applied to the modem. According to the readme, setting 'inhsocket:1' …

On the subject of modem emulation

I've been toying around with WWIV 4.30 under DOSBox 0.72 recently in comparison to Synchronet BBS software for compatibility reasons. Mainly, door games, specifically Legend of the Red Dragon(LORD) and its In-Game-Modules (IGMs) are what have been annoying me. Some of these IGMs and doors are …

Re: Mechwarrior in DOSBox 0.72

Attached is the listing of all of the files in my directory (Best viewed in DOS edit). It is cracked, although I have tried it without the crack, and it does the same thing. This version came on 2 floppies with both Battletech games for DOS. I wasn't aware of any other versions, although I was …

Mechwarrior in DOSBox 0.72

I've read the other threads about how Mechwarrior stopped working sometime after .62 and about the 'intelligent=false' for the config file, but I've also seen mentioned that the intelligent variable is no longer read. I've poked and prodded at it with and without memory management, low cpu cycles on …

Re: Whiplash (Fatal Racing)

I have run it in DOSBox 0.70 with both the CD and a CD image I made. I used 'mount d d:\ -t cdrom' in both instances and it worked fine. Have you tried running the game in Windows? It will run, but the CD drive letter the disc is in has to be the 1st non-hard drive drive letter available (C is HD, D …

Re: A Challenge: Getting Serpent Isle to Run with Sound and a CD-ROM in DOS

in DOS
To my knowledge, the CD version (Complete Ultima 7, of EA Classics, right?) wasn't released until a few years later, after the floppies first came out. I think it would be more like 13 years ago. 1994 meant DOS 6 or 6.22, and maybe Windows 3.1 if it even matters. I know I know I installed it, found …

Re: simcity 2000 in dos

1. CPU cycles. Turn it up if it's at 3000 or lower. If it says 'auto', change the default cycles in the dosbox.conf from 'auto' to 3000. Then tweak as necessary in-game. 2. Make sure the sound setting match the settings in the dosbox.conf. 3. If the 2 above don't help, change the renderer in the …

Re: IPX over UDP on a real dos machine as dosbox do

in DOS
I bet that's quite an arrangement, as IPX packets are packeted in UDP packets currently. A TSR to decode them would just eat RAM and processor time on the non-DOSBox machine. If that patch got updated so it could forward IPX packets out directly(or for that matter, TCP packets...), it would work …

Stunt Track Racer arrow keys?

in DOS
I'm currently trying to run Stunt Track Racer EGA in both DOSBox and without and I'm running into an odd problem. The arrow keys are assigned weird. The up arrow key makes the car go in reverse. The down arrow key does this with the boost. Space bar activates forward boost, but I've tried every key …

Re: Stunt Track Racer arrow keys?

The mapper would be step 2. Of course, I ran the game sans DOSBox and found it suffers from the same issue. No key on the keyboard will start regular acceleration. Once I figure that one out, I can remap it. I'm moving over to the DOS games board for more assistance.
