Re: indirect sound

in Windows
Does new OpenAL Soft work with Mass Effect 1 (Legendary edition too) properly? Do i need eaxefx patcher? I don't think legendary edition needs it, as a remaster it would target XAudio, why "old" OpenAL or DirectSound? But someone will test eventually. Because EA are incompetent, they still using …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
Sigh.. I guess I have been too much eager in trying to find some clue. Comments here in particular suggest indeed some kind of cumulative issue with flushing older sounds/settings. I didn't know until years later that id was forced by Creative to add EAX so that DOOM3 could use the patented shadow …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
An X-fi release day review argues they even had to tone down EAX effects in some points, and phil sounded enthusiastic about the XP experience. (also this seems to be the alchemy bug I had mentioned) Still, yeah, I guess without a record under ideal conditions you can't really claim much.

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
Driver problems with EAX (and anything else creative in general) go back to the dawn of time, I'm not sure how anybody could still be surprised. There was also much more going on, but I just wanted to point out that reverb must be there somewhere. I don't really know how they possibly solved it in …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
I think we can be pretty confident that any EAX settings that the game is trying to set with ALchemy/DSOAL/IndirectSound is going to be consistent in older operating systems with actual hardware that supports the same EAX level. It's absolutely not a reasonable assumption. A lot of time Creative …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Far_Cry#Audio Creative itself was advertising it with EAX AHD support. They don't mention anything other than reverb and good positional audio though. Also take not there seems to be some extra steps to get dsoal right. EDIT: the only sample I could find.

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
People here seemed fairly happy with FC and dsoal. If you want to check whether the game does anything or not with those game options, use this to log the sound calls.

Re: Windows 10, hybrid GPU setups and DirectX <= 8

in Windows
I don't really know how this was handled in the first Optimus "on the fly switch" iterations, but at least starting from 8.1 (more precisely build 9321, according to leaked source code) Windows calls to the new function Direct3D9ForceHybridEnumeration from inside d3d9 dll. Newer direct3d versions …

Re: Emulating EAX on any onboard sound hardware?

in PC Emulation
As expected not working (audio dropping with incendiary shotgun ammos) in Unreal 2 where EFXEAX is working (no audio dropping) X-Fi Titanium with Unreal 2 forced in "native" OpenAL mode (bypassing the "System Driver" aka DirectSound wrapping -> UseDefaultDriver=False ). https://web.archive.org/web/ …

Re: Emulating EAX on any onboard sound hardware?

in PC Emulation
Thank you lowenz for the tip off. That's exactly what people have been longing after for over a decade. (though it's technically just openal focused for the moment, I'm not exactly sure about its interplay with dsoal) Of course being a replacement for some creative-made software, you have an inane …

Re: Gears of War PC (2007, DX10) 5.1 via HDMI?

in Windows
Of course you have to use the right DeviceName for Rapture3D or openal-soft. Or just ditch away wrap_oal.dll in both your system and game folder, and the game will be obliged to use your fully fledged renderer.

Re: Mass Effect 1 Activation

in Windows
I haven't noticed any performance issues. https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=18522#p133300 https://web.archive.org/web/20080510093146/http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=628375&forum=125&sp=45 Ehrm.. I don't want to be that guy, but you got more stuff wrong than right. …

Re: VOGONS Driver Library

All the Ageia PhysX PPU supported games, demos, benchmarks, drivers and mods that is OK to upload are now available on Vogonsdrivers: http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/index.php?catid=70&menustate=32,0 It's taken a while to acquire everything, but enjoying your PPU card should be a tad easier. You are …

Re: Vmware DX11 support

in PC Emulation
I'm not sure what you are thinking to. If you want to run W98, then you sure aren't going to get newer directx (or any kind of acceleration that is). If you want to run dgvoodoo2 with normal new windowses.. Then what's even the point with respect to bare metal? As for star trek games, there are …

Re: 64bit replacement of ntvdm

in DOS
"Running 16 bit code" is just a subset of what you need for actual fully fledged DOS programs. In 64-bit mode, the only possible way to run some kind of real mode "on bare metal" is virtualization. Now, I would guess performance isn't really going to be 100% of "native vm86".. But close enough …

Re: 64bit replacement of ntvdm

in DOS
As noted in the winevdm documentation, 64 bit windows simply won't let you change the Local Descriptor Table. There's no way around it, so you can just hope for somebody to develop a fast enough recompiler, or use a VM (HAXM in ntvdmx64 ?). On the other hand.. Linux has no such limitation. If your …

Re: Vmware DX11 support

in PC Emulation
Lolwat, a Core 2 Quad can still play all but the very latest games (and usually not even for "strict performance" reasons, but just because some smartass thought it was smart to optimize for SSE4.2). And vice versa, if XP can even still run on baremetal.. With GPT and straight from UEFI, I don't see …

Re: Vmware DX11 support

in PC Emulation
DX12 is also available in W7 as of the last year, and it never had any link whatsoever with UWP. If any, it's a shame that this requires the latest and greatest version of Workstation (on top of the latest tools), thus leaving out <2010 hardware. I can just hope VirGL will work one day in windows.
