Sorry to piggy back here, but I also noticed that when I start up a Win98 machine in the latest PCEM, the audio is smooth. When I do the same with 86Box it sounds a bit choppy. It doesn't matter what CPU I pick. It's almost like the default buffering options are different between the two emulators. …

Hi Gerwin. Do you know where I should be setting the jumpers on that same sandwich? I bought a MS6905 Master, Lin-Lin and Tualatin Celeron 1.4 as well for an ASUS P2B. I don't know where or which jumpers should set the voltage!

Well, 10+ years later I'm remembering why I stuck with a BX board now. Thanks for the reminders. I'm sure it had to do with DDMA, SBLink, ISA-DMA and the like. It was the perfect Windows 98 machine then and still is today. I had one for sale on eBay but I think I'll keep it now.

There is something different in the way the modern boards use ISA though. They don't have the same sound card compatibility.

I think the 130 sounds the closest, but it's very tough to tell. You might want to normalize all files and compare amplitudes of various peaks and spots on an audio program. My speakers are Altec Lansing 621 with sub.

Use DOSBox for early 90's. Build a good Win98 box with an Aureal SQ2500 + Roland SCD-15 if wavetable MIDI is most important, or a Sound Blaster AWE64 if not. Although good luck finding it all.
