Re: My pool ...

Zirias, I do not know you. But it seems like you know your shit, but welcome on board. And I hope you will be a valuable asset to this board. Thank you ;) Maybe I could, at least I am interested in coding... I'm just a little unhappy that I can't use any of my Amigas right now because of broken and …

Re: Locked Thread -- why?

Ok .. i did this admin stuff myself a long time ago on some other forums and yes, i CAN understand things like that happen. That's why i just >ask< the mods to explain such things. Even if it is annoying sometimes, it's still much nicer for the users to know what's going on, and why... But I think …

Re: Real MIDI emulation?

Hmm. This seems to be a valid argument, but still, i'd suggest to make that at least compile-time-optional. I chose to use timidity (NOT fluidsynth) a long time ago and i'm very happy with dosbox using this setup 😀

Location of the configuration file

First of all: I think this is an issue AND i'd like to help with that. Problem description: OpenGlide just stores it's ini-file in whatever directory is the "current" directory. On windows platforms, this is most probably the directory where the currently executed binary resides, on unix this is …

Re: Locked Thread -- why?

Post in your own thread (instead of one from 2006) Well, I wasn't the one "reviving" this thread. (instead of one that has nothing to do with your post) And this is definitely not true. But it confirms my assumption. So, please, explain yourself when doing things like closing threads -- I don't …

Locked Thread -- why?

in Milliways
In the OpenGlide forum, the Thread about "zip contains only glide2x.dll" is now locked, but, without any comment. Could someone please explain? Right now I can just guess: Development discussion belongs in the development forum. Is this the reason? I'd like to politely ask anybody performing …

Re: Zip only contains Glide2x.dll?

Note that the .ini just appears in the "current" directory, which is on a windows based system normally the same directory that contains the .exe file of the game (or dosemu). I think this is quite broken behavior, it clutters your system with .ini files and requires write permission in every game …

Re: Real MIDI emulation?

I still don't get what good that would do? There is timidity, there is fluidsynth, I can decide whether I want to use a soft-synth and which one... (and, not only for dosbox but for any midi software) The only valid reason for this I can see right now is supporting platforms that lack some "virtual …

Re: Real MIDI emulation?

It is a virtual machine, emulating some standard opl/fm-synthesizer, that's fair enough. If you want more, just install a decent software synthesizer, that's really not much to do. As I said before, dosbox just worked in a environment where I had already set up timidity. Such a high quality …

My pool ...

Desktop: AMD64 X2 6k+, 2GB RAM (not enough right now), on an Asus MSNPV-VM with onboard nvidia chip and hd-audio chip, 27" widescreen dell ;), Debian GNU/Linux x86_64 Server: AMD64 X2 4500+ (energy saving model), no graphics or sound, XEN with some Debian VMs and a Windows Server 2008R2 AMD64 C64-I …

Re: Real MIDI emulation?

When I first dropped my AWE32, I installed timidity and thee "eaw patches", and i'm still quite happy with this sound. You could download them for example here: "http://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/distfiles/eawpats12_full.tar.gz" No idea how exactly timidity hooks into a windows system, on my linux box, …

Ansi C or C++?

Hi, I just wanted to do some little modifications and was quite surprised to find only plain old C code in the .cpp files. Is there a particular reason for using a C++ compiler (along with libstdc++ et al)? edit: I just discovered openglide INDEED compiles fine using gcc (and NOT g++), so there's …

SVN build for debian

Just to mention: I just uploaded an SVN build for Debian GNU/Linux i386 and amd64 including glide stuff, look here: Re: Tutorial: dosbox with Glide under Linux No idea right now if i'll continue on this, though.

Fullscreen mode on Linux?

Should fullscreen mode on linux work? actually, Openglide (as built from CVS two days ago) ignores the InitFullScreen=1 setting in OpenGLid.ini on my machine, so if this actually should work on linux, what could I check? TIA, Felix

Re: Tutorial: dosbox with Glide under Linux

Nice documentation! I just used this for creating debian packages as I prefer those over uncontrolled /usr/local installations. Unfortunately, Carmageddon Demo doesn't seem to work this way and I can't find my other old DOS stuff right now, so I can't test myself. I found my old Screamer-2 CD and …
