Re: mscdex

Try with the -ioctl switch to mount if you are using a Win32 build of Dos Box. If you're using a build for another OS, this will not work.

Re: King's Quest 5

With the King's Quest Collection, which I believe is what you are referring to as the '15th Anniversary Edition', if you cd into the specific directories for the game on the CD itself, you can use the game's own installer, rather than the selector batch from the collection CD to install each game.

Re: EMS Problem

This sounds like a paging issue. Dosbox 0.60 doesn't provide Paging or VCPI support. Wait for the next release of DosBox, though I suspect that you will have to set ems=false to get the game to run.

Re: Wing Commander 2, DosBox CVS-20040116

Update on this issue: I went and threw a Realtek NIC in an old machine that has WC2 installed. Grabbed it over to this machine, and ran DOS Box. This time, at the same point, (After you destroy all the Sarthas attacking the Concordia in mission 2) dos box crashes. No illegal opcode report in debug, …

Wing Commander 2, DosBox CVS-20040116

I've notedd in the past (Under the screenshots from Latest CVS thread) that The Wing Commander II issue when inputting your character name is now fixed. I've been trying to bite my tongue until dosbox 0.61 is officially released before bringing it up again, but I've grown slightly impatient, and …

Re: Roland MT-32 to GM/GS mapping vice versa

There is a one-up to that idea in the works, sir. If you look under the MT-32 Emulation section of the VOGONS forum, you'll find links to a version of Dos Box with an MT-32 emulator enabled. It currently needs an MT-32 PCM ROM, which is not in distribution due to a copyright dispute with Roland, …

Re: Difference in CPU core

I'd guess that yes, the results would improve by turning off the core logging with Dynamic. (I'm assuming you mean the output from the debug mode) I just haven't tried a recent CVS build without the debugger. :) Afterall, printing a line to the console, or logfile after practically every single …

Re: Difference in CPU core

Right now, though on my PIII/600, the 'normal' cpu core seems to have the highest performance of the three if I compile with -march=pentium3 -O3, and --enable-core-inline to configure. I'm certain that dynamic will get faster eventually, but for right now, normal is still giving me the best bang for …

Re: Can I suppress stderr.txt and stdout.txt?

I was just thinking on this. I know how easy it is to supress the console output in Unix. It occured to me that Windows/DOS had a similar functionality, could you redirect the output to NUL in windows, or would that only catch stdout, rather than both stdout and stderr. I would think it would catch …

Re: wing commander 3, wc armada, privateer

VCPI (And Paging) support is required for both Privateer and Armada. I'm not sure about WC3, but I suspect that is as well. It will come in time, but not with Dos Box 0.60. You can get Privateer to run with the latest CVS if you disable EMS, and enable Debugging, but my experimentations with that …

Re: Wing Commander1

INSTALL.DAT (DAT, not BAT) is one of the installation files from Wing Commander. I've seen it in both locations, and tend to keep it in both, due to the fact that I've never had the will to track down the proper spot for it. :) If you have the INSTALL.DAT and a proper WINGCMDR.CFG, the installation …

Re: Wing Commander1

Okay, first off, after you install, INSTALL.DAT should at the VERY least be in the same directory as wc.exe (I have it both there, and in the GAMEDAT/ subdirectory. Second, you may need to have a basic, fully configured WINGCMDR.CFG (And CRUSADE.CFG) before you can use INSTALL.EXE to change …

Re: speed problem

Dynamic Recompiling? Very nice. Cheers on trying to implement that, Snover. And good luck. 😀 With luck it'll help to cut down on all of the whining about Dos Box being 'too slow' 😀
