I think i have 2 options. I cant get the rod out, the plastic wedge on the end will not budge. Sounds strange cause when i restart in msdos it runs through the whole boot process. Check your clock battery? Windows can change pnp resources and maybe on a cold boot something isn’t set the same?

With the right adapter / cable to convert the game port to din midi you could look into the Roland um-one. I use that method or the serial softmpu method to a mt32-pi. It would for pc as well.

In the short term a sw synth in windows might be best I would look for virtual sound canvas on archive.org. This can run on a Pentium. Another sw synth option are the ones by Yamaha
