Re: Alien Trilogy - requires 8 MB or more?

in DOS
MiniMax wrote: Will it install in DOSBox? If so, you could do the install there, and move the resulting installation over. Not going to be easy; the Silver Machine is in no way connected to the network and in fact seems to have difficulty reading some burned discs, strangely enough. I'd have to …

Re: Alien Trilogy - requires 8 MB or more?

in DOS
I have replaced EMM386 and HIMEM with JemmEx as provided from Dosfreak's link, and added the Max= line to its entry in config.sys: DEVICE=C:\UTILS\JEMM\JEMMEX.EXE FASTBOOT I=B000-B7FF MAX=8192 Assuming, of course, that the MAX= parameter takes its argument in KB, I assigned it exactly 8 MB of …

Re: Inner Worlds

I'm trying to track down the game in question, but its distribution is a little bizarre. There is an official website that has declared the game freeware, but they do not offer the game from their own site because it costs them too much money, so they offer the game to anybody willing to pay for the …

Re: Inner Worlds

In a situation like that, I don't think that the wrong sound card would have an effect like that. Would you mind giving more information, though, such as how you're mounting your drives, how you installed the game, etc?

Re: DOSBox running slow with GF9

This is a pretty common complaint with various Doom ports as well; as far as I've seen, the only permanent solution has been "don't buy NVIDIA" I'm still really confused over this because I have ZERO problem with this sort of thing on an XFX GeForce 8800 GTX. Have never had issues with palette …

Re: Can’t Launch Doom – Please Help!

Are you running Windows Vista, by any chance? Vista has some strange quirks regarding saving files in directories where the current user does not have write privileges - either make sure the privileges are set properly for your user on the folder where you're installing the games, or run DOSBox as …

Making one bootdisk behave as several?

in DOS
My new "Silver Machine" runs pretty well, but I'm facing a good number of games that need me to edit my Autoexec and Config files. So far I've been getting by with just leaving the copies on my C: drive alone and just using a boot disk instead, but I'm still needing to modify the files on the floppy …

Alien Trilogy - requires 8 MB or more?

in DOS
I'm loading up Alien Trilogy for MS-DOS on my recently-acquired "Silver Machine", but the installer has stopped me from actually installing the game. I insert the disc, change to the E drive where my CD-ROM resides, then type Install, and get this: ** ERROR ** Alien Trilogy requires 8 megabytes of …

The Silver Machine

Purchased on Craigslist for $30: Pentium II 233 MHz 64 MB of RAM Two 1 GB hard drives Sound Blaster 16 Diamond Stealth 64 8x CD-ROM, 3.5" floppy MS-DOS 6.22, Windows for Workgroups 3.11 All housed in an awesome silver-aluminum case. This thing's more than proven itself in my book, having shown it …

Re: HELP WITH MOUSE

Considering that there are actually DOS games that use the middle mouse button, this would probably break a good number of them, but keep in mind that you can unlock the mouse from the DOSBox window either by Alt-Tabbing out of the window or pressing Control+F10 (I think).

Re: Zone 66

Well, you should first make sure that your copy of the game includes the GUS music (from what I recall it was a separate download for the shareware version, and on separate disks for the registered version). If it does, you'll probably need to run the game with something like this: zone66 /g I can't …
