I did it because it speeds up load time. Well...that IS weird (speeding up load times). Hard disk bandwidth is so low, compared to RAM, that it is almost always faster to load a compressed file and uncompress it in RAM. I don't know if it is also valid for SSDs. That being said, the difference …

The music of MI1 was composed with and for the MT-32. I wouldn't be surprised if it was also the case for SQ3.

More accurate approach: tag each FPU register as pristine or tainted. But I would be surprised if FPU operations were performed during a memcpy.

You'll be better off booting from a DOS floppy, CD, or a DOS partition on your hard disk. http://www.freedos.org/ may be useful.

There's probably nothing personal. There are bots who systematically scan IP adresses looking for known vulnerabilities to exploit.

Possible workaround, with a smaller overhead than a full soft float implementation: You could duplicate the FPU stack (full and double precision). Have fild push to both, and fist(p) pop from the full precision stack only if no other FPU operation occurred in the mean time.

Booting in MS-DOS inside DOSBox may help. You'll need to install MS-DOS on a disk image (there are tutorials floating around), then copy SMART on the image too (for example, you can launch DOSBox normally mount the SMART folder as C, imgmount the image as D: and copy from there).
