Re: Daggerfall

I play Daggrfall on max, using DDRAW and SB16 sound. I use the Fall.exe Z.cfg to start the game, so it uses the viewplyr.dat forWASD and mouse look. I tweaked the shaders to give less pixellation (easy to muck around with options when you use a GUI front end!) and all works fine! The game though, …

No DOSBOX version can find CD

I get the cannot locate CD whenever I use any DOSBox version, and front-end for DOSBox or VDSound. I can only run it, with problems using the Bethesda XP patch, but I would rather run the game in DOSBox to get better sound and smoother movement. Never had this problem where the CD cannot be found in …

Re: D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox frontend)

To view the conf file used when calling DOSBox from D-Fend Reloaded: (Select profile) -> (right mouse click on it) -> "View DOSBox conf file" from the context menu or (Select profile) -> "Profile" menu -> menu item "View DOSBox conf file" or (Select profile) -> Toolbar button "Edit" -> "View DOSBox …

Re: D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox frontend)

"Autoexec" is the last section in any DFR profile. There you can specify programs you want to launch before the game. Ah, thank you! Learnt something new again - it never ends does it?! :) I think I have just found the answer, believe it or not, it seems to be working now I have chosen SB16 as the …

Re: D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox frontend)

h-a-l-9000 wrote: Try to launch it from the [autoexec] section instead of the command line. If I knew what that meant........ As I said, 99.9% of my games are installed and played via front-ends just so I don't have to deal with DOSBox command lines other than the Mount commands obviously.

Re: D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox frontend)

Start -> programs -> dosbox 0.73 -> configuration -> edit configuration Thanks copied it and made the conf exactly the same, and in 0.65 through to 0.73 I can get the animated intro when I use DOSBox direct. When I use D.O.G. or D-Fend I get the slideshow. At this point i'll give up and just play …

Re: D-Fend Reloaded (DOSBox frontend)

Generally I am pleased with D-Fend Reloaded, as I was with D-Fend before it. However, something is lacking in MSDEX as while I can run X-Com Terror From The Deep with the animated intro directly though DOSBox and yet through D-Fend I get the slideshow intro. I believe X-Com TFTD decides to play the …

Re: Another Aces of the Deep Problem....!!

I have lots and lots of retro games installed. Congratulations. Yes, you might like to know they include Red Baron, Aces over Europe and Silent Hunter Commander Edition! Last night I installed a 1998 strategy game called Spellcross (by SCI/Cauldron) too. After installation the game wouldn't …

Re: Another Aces of the Deep Problem....!!

Read page one. I did, you didn't or you didn't get it. My post saying got it followed the post politely saying 'try mount c c:\' So I don't know why you say 'I didn't get it'. Also, given this is the first time I have had to do this to get a game working - in over 4 years of playing DOS games …

Re: Another Aces of the Deep Problem....!!

Certainly I have added the 'mount c c:\' to my toolkit and will be more willing to try it in future. Whoooo so we have a TWO PAGE thread and you still didn't get the real point? I have lots and lots of retro games installed. They are all working perfectly okay. I'd rather have my games on any drive …

Re: Another Aces of the Deep Problem....!!

There are some apps/games that will choke if the CD-ROM letter is not contiguous, i.e. no drives in between the c: drive and the CD-ROM. If you are mounting only a c: drive and a CD, mount the CD as d:, even if your real CD/DVD is another letter. You are absolutely correct. But, in truth, I have …

Re: Another Aces of the Deep Problem....!!

Well,I must admit, my PC is a little different. When I built my last PC, I bought the case from a UK Company called Maplin, they are a general PC/Electronics store like Tandy in the U.S. Well, they had a sale on 'hard disk caddies'. Down from £12 ($16) to £5 (($7.50) with the caddie holder free if …

Re: Another Aces of the Deep Problem....!!

Thanks for the pie MiniMax - very tasty! For everybody else, in my defence, there is always a learning curve with each and every DOS, Win 3.1 or Win98 game you install in DOSBox/Virtual PC/XP on a modern PC. I have installed dozens of DOS games into DOSBox and never used mount c c:\ as I have been …

Re: Another Aces of the Deep Problem....!!

Pleased to tell you that mounting c c:\ seems to have fixed the problem! QBix, my DVD is M as I have multiple hard drives. For all previous DOS games I have just mounted M as M: with no problem, so generally, although you can set any letter within DOSBox for your DVD drive, I have never had a …

Re: Another Aces of the Deep Problem....!!

Firstly I have mounted to c c:\dynamix\aodcd and m m:\ -t cdrom. I have also used the D.O.G. front end to tweak all the various options to try. I have narrowed it down to a weirder problem: On the second try I managed to get the game running by installing the game from within DOSBox, I thought I had …
