Re: The ultimate Ultima 7 machine

Well starting with Wing Commander Secret Missions 2, the game has adjustments for frame skipping and/or frame duration. They aren't well known (CTRL + / CTRL - and ALT + / ALT -) but give you enough leeway to adjust them perfectly on faster machines and during gameplay. Great Hierophant is right, …

Re: Fastest CPU in DOS

Compared to the complang list, cpuworld is benching the same thing, doom 1.9s under dos, with the same set of hardware. Here's another doom results list, http://thandor.net/benchmarks/cpu/cpu?a=32&c=0&o=0&i=0&s=Submit, but cpuworld is the only one I've found so far that has benched newer CPUs. There …

Forevermore wrote: ^^^ Those results are definitely different. And seem to make more sense. Top result isn't from running Doom 1.9s in DOS, but a recompile for windows(prboom) running from x64 windows 7.

Re: Fastest CPU in DOS

c2d is the runner up to the a64, not so bad. I wonder what changes they made that dropped the performance in DOS. The latest haswell even dropped compared to ivy, both being way down the list.

Fastest CPU in DOS

The latest Haswell based CPUs? Ivybridge? Sandybridge? Nope, the Athlon 64 core. Yes, what follows is really how they do their url:) http://www.cpu-world.com/benchmarks/browse/398_26,443_23,443_20,565_26,445_20,1050_63,200_4,200_5,376_23,376_20,1018_60,921_81,1020_60,667_51,84_11,84_10,272_15,190_11 …

Re: The ultimate Ultima 7 machine

Does there seem to be any diffrence between running it on a 33mhz as compared to a 40mhz? A 40 MHz performs 20% faster and this seems to be quite a demanding game. I personally would also play this rather on a 486. To see the difference between 40 and 33 MHz on a 386 you can head to my YT channel …

Re: PCEm. Another PC emulator.

PCem v8 is now available. FYI, gusmax is a gus with wss compatible dac on a different port. Might be able to get away with just setting the ultra16 environment var to the wss port, but if there are any hard coded programs, make the wss dac available on port 32c in the code. The biggest draw for me …

Re: EEPROM your CM-32L

I looked to see if someone has tried doing a mt-32 to cm-32l rom upgrade, didn't find, but there are several mods. http://www.oldcrows.net/~patchell/mt32/mt32.html http://www.houseofsynth.com/roland-mt-32-hardware-hack-to-improve-sound-quality I believe such a mod may be possible to turn a late MT- …

Re: Best DOS video card?

I'm curious how well Intel's integrated GPU on the sandy/ivybridge/haswell fare with what you test, they're faster than DOS era cards, do you have access to the Intel chips to test? I have an atom board with "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600" onboard gfx, is that interesting to test? any …

Re: Engineering a DOS PC

As the CPU PDF I linked to shows, it has "X-ISA bus interface," ISA with some pins removed. It also has p5 ISA, but there is a lot of misinformation spread about this chip from people saying without checking, some people saying not ISA bus, others claiming no FPU(wrong and wrong.) I just noticed …
