Re: SVGA Games for 286 ?

in Milliways
I think the / my Links386 thoughts have been somehow been approved: There is a link386.bat stating „if exists links386.swp delete…“ So indeed it is using the rarely known dos extender swap functionality. Haha it’s the only game I know (maybe exists) that uses this feature just to say running with …

Yes indeed I was referring to Links 386 Pro. But. Aha. Interesting. One of the only games requiring a 386 dos extender but less than 4mb ram. Here 2mb if the power play review is correct. But as they also strongly recommend 4mb maybe it uses „internal dos extender swapping“ tech.

I checked on SimCity Enhanced. According to back in the days tests it requires 386sx but only 2mb Ram. Thus no dos extender and therefor a good candidate when extending the question to 386sx. In that same category also Pirates Gold can be mentioned. Again thanks to all for the good discussions

Aha that’s interesting since I learned here that you can achieve 640x400x256 under windows 3.0 with certain drivers with 256kb mem (Paradise cards)

As stated I refer to 640x480x256. Although things in the middle as 320x400 would also be of interest. What’s super vga or not could be an endless (maybe pointless) discussion :) I personally am historically bit between: A) the infos shown in windows 31 setup where svga started at 800x600x16 or …

Re: SVGA Games for 286 ?

yes there might be a mix-up between gpu and monitor topics here. Low end non-fixed SVGA monitors did indeed only provide 35,1KHz meaning: - 640x480 @ 60Hz - 800x600 @ 56Hz - 1024x768 @ 43Hz Interlaced That it not necessarely representing the gpu capabilities. I was owner of one of these :) Maybe …

I summarize that most games are more moving-picture games 😀 like windows 3 cars games, text adventures or simple bullet movements. The only exception might indeed be sim city. There is SimCity Enhanced CD-ROM for DOS which supports svga. Interesting. I will try this out 😀

SVGA Games for 286 ?

in Milliways
Hello all, Do you know if there where any svga games (640x480x256) that run on a 286? Or any for the 386 but w/o usage of dos extender? - Pinball ? Thanks Edit: collected commercial games so far that could fall under SVGA: 286: - Spellcasting 301 - Gateway - Eric the Unready - Scorched Earth - div. …
