Re: Sierra AGI Games and PCjr., current SVN

I'm not sure if this is related, but I get those same green dot patterns with Tandy GW-Basic in screen 3 or screen 5 (160x200x16 and 320x200x16 modes). Using the exact same basic.exe on a real Tandy (or with PCjr cartridge basic) does not result in the patterns. I'm using the official 0.74 version …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

Look at the attachment back on page 13 of this thread for an incomplete list of games I compiled that use 320 and 640 color composite graphics. I updated the spreadsheet; there were a few corrections that needed to be made and I was able to fill in a few missing modes/games.

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

Hello, I had been on vacation for a bit so I'm just now catching up on this thread; the Mobygames shots were done in DOSBox set to PCjr. Somewhere online I found a disk image of just Boulder Dash 1; it's been quite a while so I have no idea where. Booting it in DOSBox the PCjr graphics and sounds …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

can you check these too: I, Damiano: The Wizard of Partestrada Sherlock Holmes in "Another Bow" no luck; I don't have an original of these, and strangely enough the cracked copies I tried work in DOSBox but do not work on real hardware including my PCjr!

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

Ah, missed that with Pitstop II...when I made the capture I also checked in DOSBox to see what the RGB looked like and I got the same result as CGA, but I was in a hurry and must have forgotten to change machine to pcjr or something; I just tried again now and it worked. Very neat, I didn't know …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX

Interesting! I found a few more games that appear to target the PCjr rather than CGA (intentionally or not). Frogger II takes both CGA and PCjr into account to display reasonable colors on both (shots of each on Mobygames now). I found that if I took RGB captures in DOSBox that with machine set to …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

Was trying to get some mode 6 captures on the PCjr but I'm not sure how to set the color burst there for modes where it defaults off; on CGA the color burst bit is in port 3d8 and I had no problem setting that, but apparently PCjr is 3da instead and I'm not sure what value I need to set there. Can …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

Ok, I made a few captures. Turns out my memory was off, the colors are more different than I remembered. Based on the composite display, the high intensity white and low intensity other colors is actually correct; many of the colors are very dark! It made my captures from the game quite dark/blurry …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

I can see the different pixel patterns that Servo is talking about, but the palette is different too: intensity is on for white, but off for cyan and magenta. Somehow I doubt that this should be the case on a real PCjr (can't see how low-intensity artifact colors could be hue-shifted to match the …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX?

About this latter point: we know what changes are needed for Tandy - use New CGA encoding, offset hue by +120° in mode 6 and -45° in mode 4. But what about the PCjr? In mode 4 the artifact colors on the PCjr are different than both CGA and Tandy (I have no idea how far the hue is offset by; if any …

Re: Ghostbusters

Yes, you're correct about the colors - I set up my capture card which shows it a bit better. On both the PCjr and the Tandy the screen goes black briefly when you switch between equipment screens 1, 2, and 3.

Re: Ghostbusters

I'd need a photo of the title (music) and equipment screen too. Reason is the bottom bar on this picture displays as white and light blue, whereas the game programs light grey and normal blue. This could be a Tandy specific thing. Also, when switching between equipment screens (1-3), does the …

Re: Ghostbusters

To clarify what I wrote earlier, I'm pretty sure the reason the game doesn't display correctly on an 8086 is entirely a speed issue; the game was (more or less) playable on an 8086, but it had a flickering/corrupted display similar to what is seen in DOSBox. It doesn't work right on a fast (7.16Mhz) …

Re: Boulder Dash Series & PCJR

wd wrote: What do you mean? Same way as other booters. Most likely it's just that I don't know what I'm doing, but I haven't figured out the command to boot a real disk with dosbox. I'm assuming I need to use the mount and/or boot command, but I haven't figured out the right syntax yet.

Re: Oil's Well Still Freezes

There are definitely some strange things which happen respecting this game under DOSBox. Actually it's not that strange, it's how the game would work on real machines (the only oddity is you don't have choice of monitor type, with CGA you'll get composite monitor emulation, with Tandy you'll get …
