Just tried this again, with 0.72 (on Ubuntu 8.10) and got the same result. Really wish I knew what the GEOS installer was looking at, besides disk label, when it says I don't have disk 2 inserted.

This seems to have fixed itself when I restarted. My guess is the pulseaudio daemon got into a bad state and couldn't be restarted properly (after a manual kill). So anyone in the future who has this problem might just, as a control group, want to restart their machine and run DOSBox before running …

Trust me, you want to install the Windows version of this game rather than running it inside of DOSBox True, but it's pretty awesome that DB runs Fallout... it has to be one of the very last big DOS games released. Compatibility is getting really good it seems.

The biggest flaw with DOSBox is the fact that most games have to be endlessly tweaked to get them running right. DOS games were hard enough to get right on native, 100% compatible boxes - how many of us struggled endlessly to get speech in Dune 2? I think you just answered your own question. DOS …

Ah, thanks. I took a look with the debugger, and didn't see much of interest, and no special calls or anything when it came time to switch / detect floppies. CTRL-F4 is the same as typing RESCAN at the shell right? Both seem to have the same effect, which is nothing. Are debug versions of DOSBox publicly available? How would I get one?

Latest unsupported builds of ZDoom have Strife support... I've played more than halfway through the game with no problems.

If you just look at clock speed (yes, I know it's a terrible metric): most (if not all) DOS games will run great on a 200MHz system. 200MHz * 40 = 8GHz. Not that far off from where we are now, really. I agree that compatibility is more important long-term than speed, but CPU speeds are leveling off …

Yeah, you might have set mIRC to accept *all* incoming DCC sends, which can let a lot of nasty stuff in. What sort of viruses are you getting exactly?
