Maybe your memory issue had to do with the density of bank arrangement. This was always a problem with SDRAM. I'm not sure about DDR though. You could also try lowering the timings. Some 15-20 years ago we were manually modding Civilization save files in hex to change single character and raise the difficulty level above maximum 😀 Standard settings were not enough enymore after hundreds of hours of gameplay..

Thank you very much for comprehensive guide, looking forward next chapters! I personally currently struggle with RAM limit in my old MoBo, it seems like memory mapping issues, probably some pci rom overlapping ram address space, still investigating.
