Re: Windows XP Hardware Monitor?

HWMonitor or AIDA64 should do the trick here for hardware monitoring. Latest versions should work on XP, but if not then try going a few versions back. For stress testing, I just go with 3DMark 2000 or 2005, depending on the age of hardware. These seem to reveal eventual problems. For newer hardware …

Re: Help please. Win98SE Radeon 8500

For your uses, the MX440 would do nicely. Do not underestimate it just because it is a DX7 card - it is a very strong performer despite this. It is to my knowledge the best win9x graphics card that can run passively in a single slot. GeForce 3 Ti200 can also be acquired cheapily if you look. If you …

Re: Recommended 2D/3D card for a 233MMX PC

In my experience, all these 2D strategy games from turn of millenium period are surprisingly difficult to run on period correct hardware. You are experiencing this with Heroes 3 on MMX, I saw this with a K6-2 on Red Alert 2. With this kind of processor you would be perfectly well served with a TNT1 …

3DNOW! support with Voodoo Banshee

I noticed something odd while testing my bundle of 3dfx cards. I have a Ensoniq 3D Blaster AGP, which seems to work for the most part with reference 3dfx drivers (only after i force them via device manager, i can't find any drivers that install out of the box) However there is something that puzzles …

Re: Voodoo 1 with Riva Tnt2 as 2D Card?

Well, above a certain processor speed the voodoo accelerator will be displaying either a blank screen or checkerboard pattern (or other corrupt image) when you will attempt to use it in a 3d application. It is quite interesting because to my knowledge it is the only graphics card that straight up …

Re: Voodoo 1 with Riva Tnt2 as 2D Card?

Shouldn't be a problem. You can keep the Voodoo inside and use its passthrough. Voodoo will take over when you run glide applications, and TNT2 will be your main adapter for 2D, opengl and d3d. You might want to disable D3D from voodoo drivers so there won't be any conflicts or if games for some …

Re: Best version of directx for Windows ME

My issue with sticking with DX7.1 is that you have games in 2001 that already force you to install DX8 (Red Faction for example), and I see no reason why would one use WME if one wanted to stick to DX7-era and older games. I see it as a beefed-up (or bloated-up, however one sees it) release of 9x …

Re: Installing DOS drivers on an Audigy2 ZS

For Windows ME users - this works completely fine. One small quirk - you gotta delete the "CheckOS.exe" file from the Audigy DOS driver installation folder. It won't let you install the SB16 Emulation driver otherwise. I have tested EAX in NFS4 and SB 2.0 mode in Build engine games - I haven't …

Re: Voodoo 3 3000 LC PCI woes

I would experiment with VIA 4in1 drivers and different versions and test the card on a different board for sure. Failing on Direct3D games makes me think that there is something funky going on with rest of the DirectX components... What does dxdiag say about the Voodoo? Have you tried disabling …
