Arturia make some amazing soft synths and have a free version nowadays if anyone wants to play around with them. Still blows my mind how good they sound.

Once Windows 95 came along we started to see some really amazing design and animation packages. I remember buying Hash’s Animation Master, a 3D program that used spline patches, not polygons. It was a very different way of working, but taught me so much about character animation.

Autodesk had Animator and Animator Pro which I used a fair bit when I moved from the Amiga to a DOS PC. I also used Imagine 4.0 and 3D Studio R4. It was not the best experience after years of Amiga, but rendering was blazingly fast.

If I own an original or bought any legal paid version figure I can use anything related to make it work, even if it comes from the dark side. I remember my dad and I spending a lot of time getting his Unisys 286 configured with 1MB of ram in 1988 or 89. It was all individual chips and needed jumper settings on the motherboard. Of course it was a DOS only system.

So I am no expert, but I picked up an abandoned machine a few years back. It was a Pentium 133 with a Voodoo 3 2000 in it. After restoring it back to working condition, I have been playing around with various OS options. The Voodoo has worked well in DOS, Win 95 and Win 98.

I just finished my Windows XP/7 machine build today and I love them both, but both are offline only for older software and games. If I touch the online world, it is Windows 10 or Linux only for me. And it will be a few short years before that Windows 10 machine will be pulled offline.
