I tested the PC/104 soundcard in another larger SBC (iEi Rocky with Pentium MMX) and there it works fine, CWDIAG.EXE passed all resources and games plays SFX and Adlib :). I'm booting from MS-DOS 6.22 or PC-DOS, They stops with an EMM386 error. This is probably EMM386 trying to use a part of memory that's not free. You didn't provide the relevant config.sys parameters used to start EMM386, so I don't know what it's doing. Maybe try experimenting with the X=mmmm-nnnn …

It's interesting that the error message shows "expected" and "actual" both being FFh. This means that probably the value did not read as 0FFh at first, but when the location got re-read, it had the correct value. Getting memory errors at those addresses doesn't make any sense.
