Re: Windows 98 DirectX Framerate Limiter

in Windows
Superb work. It's so nice to see tools made for old machines and OSes. even windows 9x appears to use the pentium's time stamp counter under the hood, which is more than enough accuracy for a 1-60 fps target! You mean a regular pentium? On the github page you mention using at least a pentium pro.

Re: ThirteenAG WS + Dgvoodoo2

Why do you need to change the file extension from dll to asi? Just rename the widescreenfix file to something that's not already taken, e.g. ddraw.dll, msacm32.dll, msvfw32.dll, etc. EDIT: the widescreen fix for hitman CN47 doesn't seem to support other file names. I also tried injecting the dll …

Re: PCem v17

What do you mean? A specific thread that has been closed in the past or open a new sub-section for PCem? I meant the thread that already exists in the PC Emulation sub-section. I was thinking maybe it could be opened, at least temporarily, until the new maintainer comes forward, which by then a new …

Re: dgVoodoo Splinter Cell Games

(CIA. Defense ministry). I managed to remove the specular reflections from the shaders. No more glitches but also no more (broken anyway)reflections, only for the specific areas. See attachments below. Is replacing the textures the only way to get rid of this issue? With the original textures, I …

Re: PCem v17

I haven't checked but how many major retro youtube channels have videos on PCem? MVG, who could be considered major and constantly makes videos about emulation, doesn't seem to have even a single one. Yes, there are many videos about PCem but they are from not so well known channels. A video from a …

Re: PCem v17

Maybe someone with a large audience who's in the retro/emulator scene could help, someone like Modern Vintage Gamer, etc? He's quite passionate about this topic. I'm not saying he, specifically, should/would take on the development; just that he could maybe make a video about PCem, to raise …

Re: PCem forums - registering issue

in PC Emulation
Oh, you are a real person then! Your email address(es) made you look like a spambot. Please tell me it wasn't a _real_ address. Do you ignore most emails? I registered more than 10 days ago; didn't get approved. After a week I contacted through the forum's contact page and provided my email and …

Re: Is it possible to detect the exact D3D variant in old games?

in Windows
Why would you want to know? I, and others, are trying to clean up the direct3d information on PCgamingwiki, specifically for old games. I could perhaps rely on system requirements, but tracking down original, official requirements is time consuming and in some cases not easy. They could also be …

Re: dgVoodoo 2.7.x and related WIP versions

Would it be possible to implement a feature to display a logo or text next to "dgvoodoo" in-game, showing the type of the API conversion, like "d3d8to12", "d3d6to11", etc? It's easy to tell if a game uses d3d8 or 9, since they are wrapped through separate dll files, but for d3d7 and older, that …

Is it possible to detect the exact D3D variant in old games?

in Windows
RTSS is the go-to tool for detecting graphics APIs; the problem is, it can only detect D3D8 and higher. Since games using D3D7 and older rely on DirectDraw to present the final result, RTSS detects them as DD (DirectDraw ). Is there a way to determine the D3D variants in old games?

Re: Unintended FPS cap in Max Payne?

Just tried it with dgVoodoo 2.72. I removed the widescreen patch (I did not have any frame cap configured now, the game was running at 800 - 1000 FPS, but, as I said, this causes issues in subsequent levels). Yes, the game isn't capped with its native D3D8 API. That's normal and is uncapped for me …

Re: Unintended FPS cap in Max Payne?

As far as I remember, you actually need to cap the FPS in Max Payne, otherwise weird things happen (like frozen enemies). Having said that, I don't remember using dgVoodoo for Max Payne on Windows 10 (it worked out of the box), but I do remember using Riva Tuner to limit the FPS to 60. Edit: just …

PCem problem with CUE+multi-BIN image files?

in PC Emulation
It seems PCem is unable to properly handle CUE images with multi-BIN files; a.k.a when each track is saved in its own BIN file. Apparently it only loads the first BIN (track 01). When a game tries to access another track (another BIN), it either crashes to desktop, or throws an error about not being …
