Going from 256K cache to 1Mb on a 486 yields only about an 11% improvement (https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=966683#p966683) with 512k you probably are only 5% less than 1Mb... That board is from early 1992, so quite old. Of course it only supports 5 volts cpus. So put in an intel DX or DX2. 5 volts only.
