Re: Overseer DVD

in Windows
I see. Well, it *is* a pretty old system, indeed. So much so that at this point changing the processor would mean changing the motherboard and changing to yet another sort of graphic card - I think this is called "onboard", but really, I'm relatively clueless. Still, with this card I'm able to play …

Re: Overseer DVD

in Windows
9.08, since trying to install 9.12 didn't "stick", as I described. But I'm not sure I follow you. I can, and do, change the output in Dosbox, but my problem now is with this Win program, in which I can't easily change the output (and is why I was asking for some other way, possibly hackish). Or do …

Re: Overseer DVD

in Windows
Ok - I have changed my graphics card recently, it didn't use to be the one I listed here (and I don't remember which one it was anyway). I'm now noticing that in DosBox I'm starting to have to change render modes. OpenGL and overlay mode, for instance, now crash Dosbox with the same uninformative …

Re: Overseer DVD

in Windows
Not taskmanager, no. Probably because Overseer is a Win95 game, predating the way XP easily gives control of a lot of itself to the user, Overseer seems to run some sort of program, defined by a SENTRY.INI file, which lets me know of a few processes that I might want to turn off in order to run the …

Overseer DVD

in Windows
Hello there. I'm having a lot of trouble getting Tex Murphy: Overseer to run, have been to various sites, and generally speaking am at a loss. Mostly because all the solutions I find are about problems that pop up within the game, whereas I can't even run the game. Game: Overseer DVD System: WinXP …

Re: Outcast

in Windows
Thanks for your three pointers. Maybe it's the patch thing, I don't remember where I got it from... I need only add that whenever I applied compatibility I did it directly to oc3.exe, the game's "core", as it were. I'll try everything you suggested tomorrow when I have the time, and then update the …

Re: Outcast

in Windows
I saw the thread, and I simply don't dare to change my system.ini file over something like this. At any rate, it's not the same problem at all, and not related at all. I didn't know about the teleport cheat, but now that I've tried it, I've found that exactly the same thing happens, which is …

Re: Outcast

in Windows
Hmmm, I checked it out, but how does that appear to be related to my problem at all? Maybe my problem description put too much emphasis on the "transportation animation video" that played. The same thing plays everytime I change regions, and the problem only happens when I try to enter Talanzaar.

Outcast

in Windows
Howdy. I'm having some problem with the game "Outcast". The game is divided in several regions, and trying to travel to one of them, Talanzaar, crashes the game. Really, that's pretty much it. I've tried to acess the region from several other regions - what always happens is that a small " …

Re: Soul Reaver - it used to work, but not anymore

in Windows
Ok, I cleaned it up. Didn't help, though. But by reinstalling and re-uninstalling I managed to make the Legacy of Kain entry at least look different from the Soul Reaver entry. So, how much did you say I could rely on System Restore Points again? EDIT - I did it. I replaced the drivers with the …

Re: Soul Reaver - it used to work, but not anymore

in Windows
Ok, sorry for being so reluctant about this, but I found a way to feel safe. If I make a "System Restore Point" prior to the whole uninstall/install-older thing and it backfires on me, can I reboot and "go back" to that "System Restore Point" and find that all's well once again? EDIT - Hmmm... I'm …

Re: Soul Reaver - it used to work, but not anymore

in Windows
Heh. Pragmatist view. I like it. Can I just install this one? Or should I uninstall the previous one? How DO I uninstall the previous one? Won't it have negative effects, uninstalling the graphic card driver? And last but not least, where can I find these things out so's I don't have to take up your …

Re: Soul Reaver - it used to work, but not anymore

in Windows
Thank you for your help, but I'm not too sure about demos... I managed to run the demo of QfG5 easily, for instance, but running the whole game is a nightmare, I haven't been able to do it yet. So I'm not sure how much of a help that is... anyway, I'm the layman of all laymen - what's a "detonator"? …

Re: Soul Reaver - it used to work, but not anymore

in Windows
Hmm, I didn't bother to check that... apparently it's 7.1.8.9. I'll try updating them. Out of curiosity, how can that be the problem (assuming it is) if the thing worked before, with an older version? Does it make some sort of sense that I'm missing? ...come to think of it, I do believe I updated …

Re: Soul Reaver - it used to work, but not anymore

in Windows
Ok. I guess different machines get different possibilities, which makes sense... oh, I forgot to mention I have a Geforce FX5200. Just for completeness' sake. As for the two checkboxes, I mean the last checkboxes in the "Compatibility" tab of the setup.exe program. Though I suppose asking that isn't …

Re: LOAD ERROR: no DPMI get csdmi*b.zip

I do believe that is a RON game, made with AGS. If so, you can ask around in the www.bigbluecup.com/yabb/ forums. Usually such reports are answered with "Sorry, no can do unless the game's maker himself compiles another version"... but if you got it to half-work (as in, got past the error message …

Re: Soul Reaver - it used to work, but not anymore

in Windows
That I did, that I did. Pity that the setup program is loading so slowly (though I know why THAT happens, it's unrelated to this issue), the more I think of it the more I'm conviced it's those two checkboxes. Did you have those two checked before running setup? Also, just in case, what …

Soul Reaver [SOLVED = driver problem]

in Windows
Howdy. Ok, system specs first: XP Pro Service Pack 2 Celeron 2.40Ghz 512Mb RAM 128 Video card memory (I think) DirectX 9.0c (I think) 1024x768 32bit (Desktop) Ok, now that that's out of the way - howdy. I'm been trying to run Soul Reaver (1) on my machine, having just finished Blood Omen. It doesn't …

Re: Sonic CD

in Windows
Yes, I did. ANd btw, the CA's win95 mode apparently is exactly the same thing as the one in the tab. Which makes sense. And anyway, I did specify in my first post that I've messed around with that tab. Thanks anyway.
