Re: Most beautiful Dos-Games for a 486...what are your favorites?

Some nice Hi-res (16 color) DOS games: Dokyusei (1992, ELF) Ah yes, Elf games. The Ecchi/Hentai variety. xD The first Dokyusei screenshot really reminds me of Dragon Knight III, better know as Knights of Xentar on PC in the west. With it's "3D" mode that simply tilted the playing field slightly. …

As a RPG and DSA / Realms of Arkania fan: Realms of Arkania - Star Trail And the other two games but part is the most memorable for me. (Kill the "remakes" with fire!) Yeah, I beat both ROA1 and 2 and found the graphics charming, but not at the level of many of the other games mentioned here. I do …

Yeah, Inca looked quite nice. Still need to get the Big Box of the first game as I only got Inca II so far. Another game that I think looks nice and that I still need to get my hands on (it's expensive) is Celtic Tales - Balor of the Evil Eye from KOEI. Even though it came out quite late ('95), it …

Somehow Adventure games feel a bit like cheating as it was far easier to have good graphics for mostly still background. Heart of Darkness is a platformer Quest for Glory is an RPG Brutal: Paws of Fury is a fighting game https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/brutal-paws-of-fury/screenshots/gameShotId, …

Somehow Adventure games feel a bit like cheating as it was far easier to have good graphics for mostly still background. Daughter of Serpents is another one I liked the looks off when I saw the review in a gaming mag back then. Could also mention Broken Sword 1 and I'm actually amazed that nobody …

Just remembered that the Crusader games from Origin looked quite nice and it was always fun to set enemies on fire or freeze them. @Terracresta Thanks for the screenshots, these look really pretty! 😃 No problem. :D Was going to say that I played Stunt Driver on the C64 but it was Stunt Car Racer. I …

Yeah, but the game I was talking about that couldn't run with too much RAM wasn't Knight's Chase. So I guess the RAM wasn't the problem with Knight's Chase problem AvalonH had. Btw, how did you install the game as the version I have only has 16bit installers that can't run on my 64bit OS?

I had a handful of Win9x games that won't run with too much RAM even though they might be able to run on modern system if not for this problem. Could you please name some of them? Only a small number of games but they do exist the same way certain games and programs have problems with big hard …

Like Win 98 having problems with more than 1GB. Windows 98 starts to have serious problems at 512 MB. I'm not aware of any specific Windows programs (or Win32 programs, at least) that object to too much RAM. Windows is generally smarter than that when it comes to memory management. I had a handful …

Hm, how about the game Abuse? I think from a technical standpoint it looks quite good for it's time, incl. the animations, even though I'm more into vivid fantasy graphics of many RPGs and Adventures. There are quite a few great looking games so the "most beautiful" is quite hard to name. I love the …

Funny, I actually really liked Underworld's keyboard layout and used it exclusively, using the mouse only for picking items. A and D were turning, S was walking, W was running, X was walk backward and Z and C were strafing. It was pretty forward-thinking for the time. It wasn't as much the layout …
